Technological singularity?

What's your opinion on this kind of ideas?

?t=5524
Namely that due to developement of AI and tech everyone soon will have infinite resources and $$$, every earthly problem will be solved and no one will have to work, basically paradise for humans. Just a phantasy? Or inevitable step in the history?

It's bullshit that only works when you zoom way the frick out on graphs like this or cherry pick data and extrapolate it to absurd levels. A lot of technologies have already matured and the expectations of the future are pure physics-defying scifi. Everything was supposed to get faster, better, and cheaper but instead things are slowing, worse, and price gouged. Batteries are at their limit but you'll see people that believe this shit get excited by the bullshit battery breakthrough of the week that goes nowhere. Travel is pretty much as fast as it can go. AI won't defy physics either.

technology plateaus somewhere in the next 10-15 years, batteries are the weakest link in modern tech. Most of the high quality chips are already at the limits of what's physically possible, unless we somehow figure out room-temp superconductors or quantum computing, we're pretty much capped there.
2010-2015 was a massive leap in tech. 2015-2020 wasn't as big a leap. 2020-now is almost indifferent.

      >the limits of what's physically possible
we might be 5 years away from the limits of making chips any smaller/denser, but what matters more is energy efficiency (FLOPs per Joule)
even that is just a proxy for cost efficiency (FLOPs per dollar) which will be solved 10 years from now with negative energy costs

        >negative energy costs
        How?

          Anonymous

          >negative energy costs
in order for renewables to provide enough energy on still winter nights, countries will need to over-provision them, building multiple times more supply than is needed on a typical day
this means that for most of the year, the grid will be producing more energy than it needs, so there will be a slightly negative wholesale energy cost

Consumer technology != technology in general. Just because your smartphone's not getting any better doesn't mean we're not making massive leaps in tech every year.

some countries have functioning democracies and tax systems, though
currently, the US is the country with the 2nd highest median disposable income per capita (after Luxembourg, which doesn't count, because all the poor people live outside the border and commute in)
once Canada or some other countries overtake the US, then some moderate right wing voters will support redistributive policies, just like they supported Trump's stimulus checks

yes, the AGI will be highly regulated by the government, just like aviation and aerospace, but that doesn't mean that OpenAI is going to buy Nike or Pizza Hut
if big companies really can be run with no human input at all, then people should vote for a government that will just nationalize them and use the profits to replace income tax

You do realize today is 2024? It's not 2000 anymore. We're not getting singularity by 2050. It would only be possible if there was significant and governmental effort to develop unrestricted AI, which is not what's happening now. You can't even buy a GPU to run a measly 40B for less than 1k nowadays. Just try the AI available today and see for yourself.

A post scarcity paradise hinges entirely on the idea that we will be able to make a superintelligent general AI that is either benevolent or entirely controllable (as in it has no agenda of its own and only awaits inputs) and in the hands of benevolent people, along with the political will to completely restructure all of society instead of just concentrating this new godlike power in the hands of a few while the rest of humanity lives like serfs.

Guess why none of that mattered in third industrial revolution.

Digitial revolution won't at all be comparable to AGI. In the former scenario you have human workers becoming more efficient, in the latter scenario you have most human workers becoming obsolete, and this time around they won't be able to branch out into new developing fields because an AGI will have that covered from day 1.

There is plenty of water, if ai is doing all the work they will just filter ocean water. There is also more water under the crust than on the surface.

        https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.technologyreview.com/2023/11/29/1084061/deepmind-ai-tool-for-new-materials-discovery/amp/

ok, better answer. My dude, why we need AI to filter the water?
about minerals , "To discover new materials, scientists combine elements across the periodic table." yeah, i watchd a documentary one time about this, but, that doesnt make elements from nowhere, it only combines what already exist, if the core elements are expensive, cant replace the material we are using now. Granted, the new materials can be used to get the undergroung water.

        >drinking water
        https://www.earth.com/news/cheap-and-drinkable-water-from-desalination-is-finally-a-reality/
the only problem is transporting it from the coast, but if fusion makes energy cheap then underground pipes and pumps are easily installed

again, that doesnt make water "unlimited", is still limited and knowing the economyBlack folk, it will be expensive even with the hopium on your source.

no we won't. we won't have singularity.

the main reason that the "internet is dead" theory is a thing is basically due to information control being perpetuated by the elites who hate the 51337.
we had a bunch of forums, they all died, mainly hacker forums since the rest of the non-west world went over "free facebook" which was heavily censored (saying useful hacker tips on tech groups had my dumdummy account literally up for review and ID-ing lol).
they killed 8ch and the rest of other endch, fringgech, and whatever. almost all of the esoteric discord that was making waves in the astral, tulpamancy, divination/cultivation, and other were fricking hit.

they don't want any free uncontrolled uncensored stream of communication network - which is basically what the anonymous hivemind is all about - free from contamination and from the elites agenda (not the 51337 btw) and free from any form of astroturfing.

they are increasing the numbers - on killing any remaining sites that once were thriving community or channels, especially ones that adhere to total freedom of the mind which they do not want happening.

if you think about it humans are neurons, meme and information/internet is the neural connection, and why do they do all their best to maim this connection? they are against the greater natural crowd wisdom https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisdom_of_the_crowd and would want to taint the entire shared consciousness of this hivehumanity for TEMPORARY GAIN or ESTABLISHED GAIN and CONTROL over others. it is disgusting and ignoble.

in summary this power struggle is that "the hivehuman civilians may achieve power and autonomy after singularity and symbol divinity" and what the other "elites" want is that this power over others remain to be only to themselves so they gotta sabotage the entire game of Among Us All.

humankind reached its peak stupidity, and will remain helpless, it already achieved its "learned helplessness" when everybody took the mark.
