The degradation of Google's reputation

I use a VPN, which makes me have to solve ~2-3 captchas for bot detection before searching every ~30 minutes on Google. Because of this, I have switched to Bing. I remember using Bing sporadically ~10 years ago and it being absolutely trash, but after this whole VPN thing, I have not felt as though Google's search can act as though their search is light years ahead of Bing/other search engines. I really feel as though Microsoft has closed the gap in searching compared to Google. Another thing to mention is that also ~10-15 years ago, I felt as though Google was seen as generally the most trustworthy tech company. Definitely compared to Microsoft, but there even was a time where they were were seen as the least evil tech company overall. Fast forward to now, I would put Google trustworthiness in the same class as all larger tech companies. Honestly, I would even make the hot take that I trust Apple from a data privacy angle much more than Google. Has anyone else noticed how much Googles reputation has eroded?

is this a recent thing? it's been happening to me as well, my account even got locked and had to make an appeal that took two days to restore. Tho instead of using google, I just ask chatGPT

Yea it weird. It used to just say that it thought my traffic looked like spam as the reason for the captcha, but now google says my network has many unanswered complaints about network abuse and so it just asked multiple rounds of captcha. Honestly I am kicking my self for not switching soon and not 3-4 minutes trying to solve ridiculous captchas.

Microsoft is shit mostly out of incompetence. But the same incompetence that makes their products shit also prevents them from going full dystopian.

I don't trust Microsoft more, I trust apple less. And I trust apple less, because they are openly anti-consumer, and they are good at it.

Honestly, my point isn't even that MS is better, it is that I feel as though there used to be a huge gap in terms of usability of Google search vs bing. Since i have made the switch switch however, I have not noticed a difference at all in quality of results. Google has rested on there laurels in terms of reputation in both innovation and overall society trust, and have maintained this facade that they are untouchable in things like search engine, browsers, open internet.

      Amazon > Microsoft = Apple > Google > Meta

Why do you people trust MS more?

      Google is more pervasive online.
I like Microsoft products more than Apple products (I don't have anything Apple), but Apple has been better at rejecting NSA advances.
      Amazon is just really useful.
      Meta is shit.

Amazon is good if you're a customer, terrible if you're an employee. I was talking to a dude today who said his time working in an Amazon warehouse was literally worse than the army.

Must be a America vs. Europe thing because I have a friend who says being a Amazon warehouse wagecuck is the best job he ever had.

Do you live in the US or Europe? I'm from Canada and everyone I know who worked there hated it. But again - this was in operations, not the software side.

EU and he was hauling packages in the warehouse basically.

That's funny. I think they do have better protections over there. I know that they pay quite a bit more than minimum wage (or used to) so it was a popular job for students, but like I said, everyone I know hated working there. Dude said he fell asleep on the toilet once because it was so tiring, and he ranked 3rd for fitness in his basic training.

The army treats you like shit but ultimately wants you to stay. Amazon wants to rotate employees as quickly as possible. They hire and fire morons in rapid succession.

Amazon has been abusing its powers by destroying small businesses owners who sell their products on their platform by simply copyin from their sales data. Its pretty scummy. On top of that, they're now an abuser in platform censorship.

Apple is on a golden throne right now, and they have been abusing their market monopoly on their ecosystem. Aside from that, they have the potential to abuse their users by shaping the narrative.

      Microsoft is mehish.

Google has been doing narrative shaping for few years now, they're gone to complete shit. I would not trust it to tell me if the sun is shining or not. They're too pozzed in their consumer products user experience.

Facebook had been doing social experiments with their users and sells their user data by abusing their privacy. Its scum. They're evil.

This reminds me about another thing that pisses me off about google. I have noticed that the captcha behavior changes based on the amount trackable data they can find on you. It's why in incognito or when you log out of your google account, you have to do more captcha's, and it always the type that are the annoying to do (multiple challenges that only says that you missed something after ~5-6 challenges, passing a captcha but then the page reloads back to another captcha you you have to also pass). They are just so transparent about rewarding people who enable the most tracking data so they extract browsing behaviors to use for ad targeting.

New ventures attract people who want to make something new. Established companies attract people who want to maximize paychecks and minimize work. From what I hear Google lost its open innovative culture a long time ago. That was the inflection point, and now the momentum isn't enough to keep it moving. Good chance it sits on a market niche and collects money like Oracle or IBM.

their results are twisted by a combination of woke censorship and profit-maxxing. they are removing heaps of features such as caching and file search.

Google is just straight up bad search. I don't use bing either because frick loading a 4MB image, half a dozen ads, and redirect tracked URL with identifiers on every search result. Best bet I've found is unironically, regrettably, yandex. I can't believe we've gotten this low.

Google has taken over the browser market and they've been actively trying to degrade experiences for non-Chrome users across all of their platforms, that's all that's happening. Being that you post here, I'm assuming you use Firefox?

Why the hate on Meta? Things change.
Unlike jets running Google and Microsoft, Zuck yielded to censorship only thinking that's necessary to get power, which he tried with Lybra. That got killed, mass media attacked him, Zuck hates the establishment almost as much as Elon Musk now.

Nobody cares about Facebook now, but Zuck's hate is manufactured by mass media. I'm not saying he cares about you, but he's not a woke ideologue like google/ms. He now uses his funds and control over Facebook to develop vr (his hobby), give out powerful llms for free to frick up google and ms (all llammas) and having fun on his ranch.

He's himself a israelite but he married a gentile, so his kids aren't, which basically means he doesn't want anything to do with the tribe.
