Yeah eternal debate for boomers that are too senile to watch a youtube video test them all a decade ago and find that it doesnt matter at all

The fact that moronic tech illiterates like OP still debate this is hilarious, but also insanely sad.
As long as there is enough shit above the actual chip itself, it literally doesn't fricking matter. Meaning the middle part on Intel and top/bottom of AMD stuff.

I sense a lot of anger for a simple thermal paste discussion. Typical peacel behavior.

There's no debate. Buttered toast, mounting pressure will squeeze out excess. Specially when doing it on the die.
More is less, rather waste some than have thermal performance problems because some spot is lacking paste.

You know that thermal paste's job is just fill-in the microscopic airgaps between heatsink and heatspreader?

I have never put on thermal paste, since they come with it pre-applied. I just buy a completely new setup from time to time.

Just use mayo, it doesn't matter.

Is there an actual test using mayo? Mayo is a good heat conductor I'm sure it'll not be bad.

There's a test where they used a bunch of different materials, all I remember is that chocolate was the worst and semen was the best, better than thermal paste.

for those who dont know. you cannot screw this up by using too much, because a high quality paste is non-conductive. you could smear it all over the motherboard and it wouldn't matter.

Except the best thermal paste is silver-based, silver being the most conductive metal known the man.

diamond is a better heat conductor, silver is actually the most reflective metal
