This is a forum you pillock; no one gives a shit about proper syntax and grammar.
Note: I used a majuscule T when I began my sentence, a semicolon when dividing the two clauses of my sentence, and a period marking the sentence's end. Also, keep in mind my use of capitalisation after the colon in my most previous sentence and the use of the serial comma between my second and third points to avoid unnecessary confusion. I hope you are satisfied, my yankee brother.

aw yeah dude, is it last month's electricity bill? i've started to worry a bit, since it usually shows up pretty early in the month

i am upset that they measure electricity usage in kWh

            Anonymous

don't worry i am upset too. joules are vastly superior but the reason it doesn't work is because there are 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour.
converting kph to m/s is the same way. i know by heart walking speed is around 1,5m/s but i shouldn't. having to know conversion factors is not what metric is about at all
when i skip an anime intro which is always 1,5 minutes it always needs some calculation too. metric time should have made it

            >1,5 minutes
            thats almost a hectosecond

            Anonymous

perhaps i might sound slightly obsessed but 1,5 minutes is 90 seconds or 1/40th of an hour because there are 60 minutes in an hour
what if we change that value to 1,3 minutes? what about 1,6. doesn't really work out well does it

so how big is it? measure it in inches and then measure it in centimeters to see if there is any difference

Yes but at least we don't have to say things like "three sixty-fours of an inch"

if you thought fractional inches were dumb wait untill you hear about the gauge system
      >Gauge is determined from the weight of a solid sphere of lead that will fit the bore of the firearm and is expressed as the multiplicative inverse of the sphere's weight as a fraction of a pound, e.g., a one-twelfth pound lead ball fits a 12-gauge bore. Therefore with a 12-gauge, it would take 12 balls of lead of the same size as the 12 gauge shotgun's inner bore diameter to weigh 1 pound (454 grams).[1] The term is related to the measurement of cannons, which were also measured by the weight of their iron round shot; an eight-pounder would fire an 8 lb (3.6 kg) ball.
wire gauges have a similar stupidity

imagine being an engineer and spending your time on this shit instead of just using mm. and in the end you have to convert it to mm because the chinese manufacturer only understands metric.

            Anonymous

yeah imagine having to calculate the resistance or strenght of a wire, and asking yourself, 12 gauge, how many fractions of an inch squared is that again?

i looked at the table on wikipedia but i didn't find the listed square inches but instead got this
            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circular_mil
that isn't even defined by the 2^n fractional inches no it's defined as the area of a wire with a 0,001 inch diameter
            it's one big rollercoaster

            Anonymous

that's one advantage of doing everytthing in metric, you don't have to
unless you're an unfortunate soul that has to keep the americans in mind. the american export industry must be that way on steroids

            Anonymous

True, that shit was annoying to do, so I won't mind if metric was adopted. It would save me less headache. Also I pity the souls who have to convert their stuff to imperial just to sell it here.

now imagine yourself going back to the 18th century where every single town and village has their own units. luckily for them industrialisation didn't exist yet but still
