    how did quantum leap end?

      Anonymous

I'll actually defend the end of Quantum Leap. Yeah, it's sad that he never returned home, but at the same time, it's actually empowering and the bartender's revelation that this whole time he has the ability to leap to where he wants and help others instead of himself cements Dr. Sam Beckett as one of the most noble, selfless, and goodest heroes in the history of television.

St. Elsewhere ended with the revelation that the entire show was in the imagination of an autistic child with absolutely no foreshadowing that it was anything other than a normal hospital show before the last scene.

      Anonymous

Well it was a "realistic" hospital. The whole show was full of aspects that are necessary to nake a hospital show interesting which an audience may assugn to be realistic, but constant interesting patients and drama isn't actually a common occurrence. The idea of the ending really speaks to the show not actual being real anyway, it was meta-cognitive that all shows are actually fiction and was made to make the audience question their own "autistic child" level of interest in something as mundane as a "snowglobe" television show.
Ultimately, the meaning of the ending was lost by people invested in the lives of the characters that were angry that the show itself reminded them "this show was never real". It speaks more of the human relationship with fiction and stories than any incompetence on the side of the writer, the writer's only misstep was thinking fans of show would wish to be reminded that the story they were invested in was ultimately not real. It's just a moronic thing to bring up.

Did you even watch the show? Robin never wanted kids until she found out she couldn't have them. That's ultimately what caused their breakup. She didn't want to slow down and have kids. Somewhere along the line Ted and Robin make a pact that if they're still single after 40 something they'll get together.

Ted gives Robin his blessing with marrying Barney. They divorce (obviously) and Robin presumably has a long and successful carrier. Teds had kids but his wife died shortly after (why hes telling the story). The ending makes sense, their interests finally align again and the silly pact they made came true. Its befitting of the show.

8 seasons of This guy storytiming his kids about how he met their mother.
she finally appears in season 9
audience loves her and they fit perfectly.
the show speed runs to kill her off and tells us that this guy was in love with Robin, his ex the whole time he was telling us this story.

Apparently the writers shot the finale wayy earlier and had to stick with it

There was barely anyone left after their last mission. Which is the whole 'leading them all to their end' thing, they arrive at Earth but eventually all die out since they're obviously not going to breed with the cavemen. The old humans pass their knowledge onto the Earth humans and then disappear into legend.

I vaguely remember the network wanting to make a “friends” tv show but ends with 9/11 killing one of the characters
I wonder if that was reworked to “how I met your mother” . Like the mom was supposed to die on 9/11 or some shit

The ending of the U.S. remake of Life On Mars has the character wake up from hypersleep on a spaceship thats on its way to Mars. I guess the studio execs thought the American audience would feel cheated if the show didn't literally include the planet Mars in it.

The whole thing was made worse by the fact that the mother was actually very likable and it underlined how Ted just settled on his kids mother because Robin was the one he always loved. I'm mostly a cynic about romcoms, but at times I do like them and with the Mother, they just gave the biggest middle finger possible for the audience. It still boggles my mind they honestly thought they had a solid idea with it.
