Why do so many American Christians not revere Mary? Is it some sort of demonic blockage?

    Because Mary is Yahweh's Asherah.

And Sophia is the 4th element of Trinity.

      >In Gnosticism, Sophia is a feminine figure, analogous to the human soul but also simultaneously one of the feminine aspects of God. Gnostics held that she was the syzygy (female twin divine Aeon) of Jesus (i.e. the Bride of Christ), and Holy Spirit of the Trinity. She is occasionally referred to by the Hebrew equivalent of Achamōth (Ἀχαμώθ, Hebrew: חכמה chokhmah) and as Prunikos (Προύνικος,"prostitute"). In the Nag Hammadi texts, Sophia is the lowest Aeon, or anthropic expression of the emanation of the light of God. She is considered to have fallen from grace in some way, in so doing creating or helping to create the material world

What's the difference between reverence and worship?

It is perfectly acceptable to revere and adore other finite beings like yourself. It only becomes worship when you begin to treat them as if they were God. Many Catholics do this with Mary, often going as far as capitalizing her pronouns and doing everything they can to give her an equal standing with God.

        >revere and adore other finite beings like yourself
        >like yourself
        That's pride.

    Why should they?
Will they go to Hell if they don't "revere" Mary via prayers to her?

We do. We revere her just as much as any other saint. We just don't outright worship her like you do.

    Matthew 12:46-50
    >While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

    Luke 11:27:28
    >As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

      >“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
There you have it why Mary is the most holy creature ever.
Luke 1:48 - from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

Also in Revelation the woman who births the messiah - Mary, is called the mother of all the elect:
      >And the dragon was enraged at the woman, and went to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

The Marian cult is thinly-veiled paganism.

    >Worship of a "Queen of Heaven" (Hebrew מלכת השמים, Malkath haShamayim) is recorded in the Book of Jeremiah, in the context of the Prophet condemning such religious worship as blasphemy and a violation of the teachings of the God of Israel. In Jeremiah 7:18:
    >The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes of bread for the Queen of Heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to provoke me to anger.

    >In Jeremiah 44:15-18:
    >Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, along with all the women who were present—a large assembly—and all the people living in Lower and Upper Egypt, said to Jeremiah, "We will not listen to the message you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD! We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our fathers, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm. But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have had nothing and have been perishing by sword and famine."

Qetesh was frequently called the "Mistress of All the Gods" and "Lady of Stars and Heaven", important because, in Akkadian and Sumerian, the term "Queen of Heaven" is literally "Lady of Heaven", and in fact, another known name of Ishtar's, "Inanna," is literally just Sumerian for "Lady of Heaven."
