This seems even more ridiculous than the Irene-Charlemagne marriage theory

More like alt-history wank. Only meaningful alt-history is short-term and realistic scenarios, that allow you to explore the scenario both what did and didn't happen without doing shit like "and Alexander the Great would probably invade and conquer all of Italy as well as Carthage and his heir leading a united Hellen-Iranian empire would be able to defeat the Mauryans."

            >le realism
Shut the frick up moron. If you read history the first thing you learn is that things are rarely "realistic"

Considering how goofy the Crusades were logistics-wise, I am going to guess it would have failed

Eh, the Byzantines did raid Egypt a bunch of times.
They even took Alexandria at one point but had to withdraw.

Its kind of crazy in hindsight how essential taking back Egypt would have been for dunking on the Muslims. Imagine them taking Egypt, then the rest of North Africa, and then eventually all swarming to the Levant with a large coalition attacking different strategic spots at once.

Holding onto Egypt without Syria would've been impossible, realistically.

That's why they failed. Crusader cucks couldn't even take over the Levantine coastline.

Imagine how insufferable liberals must have been back then.
    >acktually the roman empire never existed and therefore isn't in decline
    >and it was a force for evil in the world
    >and it's rude to call them "barbarians" my mother was a barbarian

Nobody existed like this back then.

Greeks would just return Egypt to the Muslims in exchange for their help in the next civil war.

Collapsed? By this logic roman empire collapsed in 395.

The Carolingian Empire actually did collapse though. The destruction of the ruling dynasty, the central authority, administration and government. The Kingdoms of Germany and France were extremely different in nature from the Carolingian ones while the Empire of Honorius and Arcadius isn't really all that different from that of Constantius II
