I think he was a hypocrite for defending tradition in poetry and then writing The Wasteland. I can’t decide whether I admire and yet despise him or Pound more.

You can always tell who is a midwit or a pseud because they can’t add any substance to their replies. They can only call you names.

    Read his poetry

Read his plays if you really want to

    Don't bother with his criticism

I find him interesting. I wouldn't agree about not reading his criticism, but it should be taken with a big grain of salt, he's very idiosyncratic. His poetry is really, really exceptionally beautiful. Perhaps the peak of a certain kind of beauty. Want to read the plays but not until I'm much more well-versed in the form.

Best poet ever who wrote the best poem ever (Four Quartets)
Prufrock is the original incel manifesto and deserves a mention just for that

Is it true that Eliot only wrote 5 poems? It's really impressive he became so respected with such a small ouvre. Those 5 poems must be really good.

americans seem to hold The Waste Land as superior to Four Quartets; brits, the other way around. always wondered why that was. if you haven't read The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock you're missing out. great fricking poem. eliot has a certain delicate music that's rarely discussed when talking about his poetry. he wanted to be british so fricking bad it hurts.

      >he wanted to be british so fricking bad it hurts.
He just wanted to be in touch with his ancestral cultural and religious tradition. I don't think he was really all that British in his sensibility, just snobby.

        >He just wanted to be in touch with his ancestral cultural and religious tradition
there are recordings of him where he's faking a british accent lmao
        >inb4 it's called a transatlantic akshullly
right, it's the accent you have to adopt as an adult because it's not a natural manner of speaking, and it's the accent you adopt when you want to sound sophisticated. it's a little pathetic to be honest and pretty funny. great poet though we all have our flaws

Oh, ok. Yeah, that's a silly affectation. Much like how it would be silly if one were to be very careful to use correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc., except for never ever capitalizing the beginnings of one's sentences (attempting to impress an anonymous image board, rather than the Queen). Or maybe that would give one the air of being a very casual, effortlessly witty sort of intellectual? But would such an effect be compromised by the unmistakable presence of a violent insecurity about one's national identity in all of one's posts? Haven't tried it myself so I can't say.

Pound's editorial hand was the 'better part' of his output
Tried to affect an Engrish accent doing a reading for the Queen and got laughed out of the room lol lmao.

Damn, you weren't lying. Imagine putting on a British accent in front of the fricking Queen to try to impress her and her instantly seeing right through you and giggling throughout your entire reading. Humiliating but hilarious

imagine how moronic the english royals are that they got filtered by a poem and had to talk about a poet's clothes

I thought the main point was that the queen was a dressed-up ignoramus. But yeah, that's also funny.
