Perhaps it should be your responsibility to obscure your own ip address.

Would be funny if you could grab IP addresses with an outgoing call tho

    Enhanced call privacy

Enhanced call privacy is a new setting on X that helps protect your privacy. With this setting enabled, your IP address will be hidden from people you call and receive calls from. Specifically, if both parties to a call have this setting disabled (which it is by default), once our servers facilitate the initial setup, the call itself is routed peer-to-peer such that each parties IP address may be visible to the other. However, if either party has this setting enabled, a call between the two will be relayed through X infrastructure, and the IP address of any party that has this setting enabled will be masked.

What's wrong with sending all your shitposts through Cloudflare (Israeli) servers?

  19. 2 months ago

I knew immediately how and why. WebRTC is how the call works, and it's more expensive to route the traffic through a TURN server intermediary, so by default it opts for peer-to-peer through WebRTC because it's cheaper and faster. For networks or clients that can't do p2p it'll go through the TURN server anyways.

It is possible that somebody could use your IP address to reveal your home address, if they have a man on the inside at the ISP

(The Mexican cartels have done this and murdered anti-cartel bloggers)

An unlikely situation, but a big social media platform like Twitter shouldn't be exposing your IP to people who call you
