tzi had dark skin and was bald, say scientists

Based on modern dna testing scientists have concluded that the otherwise typically european-depicted Ötzi, was actually much more exotic looking. Dna testing confirms that Ötzi was a short man of intermediate pigmentation who sported a bald head.

Ötzi belonged to the "Early European Farmer" genetic cluster. A european off-shoot of the Anatolian Farmers.

So crazy that the dark skinned EEF and dark skinned WHG and dark skinned steppe people all combined to make pale Europeans. Ain’t that just heckin crazy

SHG, a combination of WHG and EHG. Both supposedly dark skinned. How peculiar!

Modern Europeans are barely related to those people.

They were likely depigmented or in the process when they reached Europe. You have to understand that these claims about their skin color are often sensationalist and race baity and scientists themselves are not certain what skin colors they actually had.

He was nowhere near as dark as the pic suggests but yeah he was darker than modern Euro.

I don't see the issue. Phenoyipal mutations can be fairly recent. They do not have to have happened from way back in Africa.

The thing that confuses me is that if you look up Khoisans, the earliest diverged humans, they aren't that dark. They're brown, but definitely not black. Some of them are clearly within Arab range, they look more like the mulatto Obama than anything. Why would Eurasians be significantly darker than them? Or are they not and everyone is misrepresenting this?

Some of the San are definitely light-skin, even compared to many North Africans and Levantines. Presumedly, this is due to recent selection during the past couple of millenia

Or maybe light skin alleles spread from ancestors of capoids

          Anonymous

It's both. One light skin allele originated in Africa and was/still is in many black people today (though this doesn't make their skin super white or anything like that), the other evolved in Eurasia and went back into Africa.

Dark skin evolved around 1.2 million years ago, but very dark brown skin evolved 500,000 years ago.

Eurasians aren't descended from the Khoisan, they're closer to people like the Hadza, who have dark brown to "black" skin. Why wouldn't Proto-Eurasians also have this variation in skin color, especially the ancestors of Australasians like Papuans and the East Asian (yes really) Negritos?

I don't know why skin color is so important for you all, certainly an American thing, a kind of inherited quarrel that will continue its central effects on your culture. It's crazy to see how seemly "racist" and "anti-racist" are in this country when you look at their skin color fetishism. it's fascinating to see that after a few centuries where the skin color was central in your society, you can not simply disarm it and that it has to be your burden until God knows when. Really makes you think about the long-term responsibilities, about how linked is the becoming of a people, and how a present culture intrinsically contains its futures selfs like matrioshkas.
