I was hoping WebGPU giving compute shaders would mean ECS could run on GPU over web. What a future that would be. But no one is saying anything like that.

I keep seeing WebGPU bullshit but I'm yet to find the usecase for this garbage

the usecase is "make more money for google by introducing their own standard to overtake the whole web".

          >ECS on GPU
Never going to happen while there's no WebGPU shader bytecode. Nobody is going to write compute shaders by hand im WGSL.

Unity doesn't convert HLSL to WSGL as part of the build process?

They backpedalled hard on the worst of it, but the reputational damage was done and many developers struggle to trust them now.
Any project that was already in development using Unity will likely continue using it (because changing engines is usually impractical), but any team who started a substantial new project after September will have seriously considered using something else.
Check indie releases in the next few years and you'll likely see a dip in Unity usage and a surge in UE5 and Godot usage.

i remember just learning unity after going to C# classes wanting to make a mobile game, and they just dropped those news. Didnt even bother, left me with the itch though.

Godot if you want to never have to worry about israelitery.

Unreal if you want a very good engine that could get israelite'd at any moment.

          Unity is pointless and garbage.

They didn't even backpedal, they just made it not retroactive, anything made on Unity 6 will have the runtime fee.

trying to steal unreal engine's thunder before the State of Unreal tomorrow, sad! Unreal 5.4 is going to bring a lot of changes under the hood and Unity's trying to get ahead of being anally raped

Don't care. Open 3D Engine will BTFO every proprietary, botnet game engine.

I hope it won't require a RTX 4070 to run indieshit games with PS2 graphics at 1080p60 like UE5.
