VMWare Workstation 12 is pretty good NGL

minus points: commercial, cant get it for free
plus points: all the rest

released in 2015, it was the last VmWare workstation that was available in "permanent install license based on serial number licensing"

this means you install it ontop of Windows 7 or Windows 8 and then you simply dont download any updates for the VMware and you can use it indefinitely, you only had to paid for serial number

and you have to have a physical CDROM where the installation files were stored (200 megabytes its small) or just put them in USB disk but original was indeed CD, there is however no CD check mechanism that tries to determine if CD is genuine

its all about serial number. later versions require you to authorize Vmware through internet, like all the other post 2015 software does

what you can do with vmware? install it on Windows 7, then install Windows 11 as a virtual machine and then you run OFFLINE software that doesnt run on top of windows 7 but does run in Windows 11

if you need Online you might be in trouble because Windows 11 will shit itself

alternatively you can run windows 10 in a virtual machine if you believe windows 10 offers something a windows 7 doesnt

If you pirate the latest version, it does not need internet.

I think those wont work indefinitely, there was some announced limit like (stops working after the year 2025 or something)

Its that version actually good? I am having lots of problems when running linux on workstation 17 player, I've been thinking about paying for it just for the snapshots

      version 12 runs pretty good
it doesnt support many of the GPU 3D acceleration things you would expect from todays software

      but everything else works wonders

even if version 17 has lot more features, its just unstable

        >even if version 17 has lot more features, its just unstable
VMWare Workstation 17 is utter shit
Not only it's less stable, it actually had a feature that I use a lot removed
Workstation 17 doesn't support mounting of .vmdk files in Windows hosts anymore, and it's also less stable, so I'm sticking with 16

    use proxmox, cuck.

If you dont have dedicated hardware, use HyperV. If you're on linux, use one of the dozen other free virtualization tools.

Don't give a fricking cent to the vmware israelites.

Do you also pay for winzip when 7zip exists, fricking idiot?

winrar is arguably the best especially if all you do is pack your own stuff in .rar's they are great to open later and the program is very versatile in splitting a file into 100MB chunks, 1GB chunks, or whatever size you desire

            Anonymous

You can do the same in 7zip, you absolute idiot. Similarly how you can do everything you wanna do in vmware in the other virtualization tools.

There's really no point to running vmware on a windows host unless you're a dinosaur company trying to manage assets (like all the hosts you're running workstation on) in active directory.

just download vmware workstation 17 or 15 if you're on windows 7 and find a key. vmware still uses static key activation

You moronic idiots really should be looking into actual benchmarks and see how fast vmware is, and also easy to use.

Show me a benchmark comparing WSL2 with vmware.
        >No i dont wanna restart my pc everytime i want to run another vm software
Why the frick would you even run another vm software? At least on Hyper-V you can use vGPU.

Esxi is picky with hardware. Licensing is much more expensive, and free licensing for non-commercial no longer exists.
