I don't understand that duck whatever thing. To me updooters are literal sheeps that do "what they are told", so ducks is probably the same thing. You must be moronic to get attacked. You are behind a fricking router. You need to go out of your way to configure your system such that it allows direct connections. The only thing you actually need to do is just keep the fricking router firmware up to date and change the default password. It is the thing that directly connects to the internet, not your computer. If the OP is a duck then you are a fricking moronic sheep.

It is pretty much a video game, gen models are like advanced minecraft which is why they don't do anything useful or productive, but they are fun to look at

you guys are making this so difficult for me
I cant decide between the nvidia 30 series or the amd 6000 series cards.
I want to get the best performing card since this is planned to be my lifetime buy build that I'll get multiple for to guard against hardware no longer being available, but I also want something affordable.

            Anonymous

lifefime buy? like you plan on dying with this PC? That's silly. You'll change out parts next year. Frick around with storage, etc, every build should be a ship of Theseus. Don't shell out on streamer bait gimmick shit.

Get a middle of the road AMDGPU from a year ago. It'll be fine. It'll play games and do stable diffusion. Don't fall for marketing and frick yourself out of money better spent elsewhere.

            Also, go to pcbg

            Anonymous

I'm staying with windows 7 and those cards are the last ones with drivers. So I need to buy multiples in case the hardware breaks so I can sit on a stack of extra parts.

I'm scared of refurbished or second hand products, I'm paranoid that they will all break quickly because I don't know their carfax and can't trust the previous owners knew how to treat their property well.

        Anonymous

That's your own paranoia not based in reality. A quick look over the product will tell you if they treated it well and graphics cards have no expiration, they will be as good on year 5 as day 1, arguably healthier

            Anonymous

No it doesn't that was literally part of the tests people did to determine whether second hand cards are risky. In fact you're more likely to have a brand new card die due to manufacturing defect than to have an older card die because it's a proven good card

I bought 2x 4090s second hand, 1 lightly used and 1 "like new". Got $350 off one and $400 off another. I was always hesitant on second hand parts too but I'm changing my mind on GPUs at least.

As soon as Linux is guaranteed to run more games im interested in as well or better with the same or less effort than 7 does sure, and there will still be many disadvatages (and advantages), 7 was as perfect as an OS could be and it kills me well never get anything like it again.

Yes and I doubt it'll ever be as good as the real thing, just like all emulation its never perfect (now get mad about how I called it wrong instead of the actual point)
But no bs aside I've tried it a while back and nearly nothing worked, I have a steam deck, I'm aware it can work, I'm sure its better now still I don't appreciate being forced to suck ms off or deal with this unfinished bs. You guys shouldve began development on it in like 2010 at least then it could've had enough time to be good by the time windows died, now its just suffering until the promise that it'll improve enough one day and I'm not gonna quit complaining about that. Is single GPU VFIO ever gonna be possible to set up without killing the install with one wrong command at least so I can just use windows when I have to without having to dual boot? Dual booting is a waste and torture.

There is a suspicious inorganic number of needlessly hostile posts against linux. Let me be clear as OP, that I love windows 7 and I greatly respect linux. The people trying to use conquer and divide tactics want us to be enemies with one another so we forget our shared common enemy: all windows operating systems after 7, especially 10. Don't let the false flags fool you in this thread, they are microjeets pretending to be windows 7 users who hate linux. Remember who the true enemy is.

it is effectively impossible to avoid all proprietary software anon. Doing so is only an exercise in self-humiliation and punishment. It is a good goal, and certainly use open software where you can and where it makes sense, but be realistic as well.
