Wayland is failed software

Wayland has been out for 16 years and it's still buggy, lacks essential features and is overall garbage. Meanwhile PipeWire has only been in development for 7 years and it's already completely bug-free and feature complete. Why can't Wayland be like PipeWire?

    >Why can't Wayland be like PipeWire?
Because Pipewire wasn't developed by narcissistic morons larping as Apple employees.

      no way to disable vsync
      no hdr
      insecure lockscreens

The only reason I use Wayland is mixed refresh rates

we still have forced vsync and benefits over X like HDR are still completely broken or in a buggy experimental state, depending on the compositor. A wayland with feature parity with X is still years down the line, especially so for for stable (usable) distros.

Almost all the complains i hear about Wayland are not even related to the protocol itself, but the inahiblity of modern users and programmers to adapt.

So much for open sores and the six gorillion maintainers/devs ready to develop free software (red hat/ibm are redirecting all the manpower to GNOME, SystemD and the freedesktop foundation btw).

I will switch when wayland protocols 2.0 releases, maybe then it will be completed.

it failed so bad you need to make a new thread about it every hour.
In reality most of the loonix world is switching over regardless of what people on this board say. It'll be running on most systems at some point just like systemd does today.

they wonder why they call it "loonix"

Comparing it to systemd or pipewire is at best misguided and at worst disingenuous. The reason these projects were/are being widely adopted is because they solve more problems than they cause. For Wayland the exact opposite is true for everyone but Xorg maintainers.

Every DE at this point either has wayland support or is planning on working on it, even obscure ones like lxqt.
Wayland does solve problems, ask the people who basically require it for their setups because x doesn't work or requires hacky bullshit that either doesn't fully solve the problem or leads to more.
Wayland is getting updates, xorg is frozen in time and won't be getting anything other than security updates for the foreseeable future.
The only thing this debacle highlights though is how poor planning is in the loonix community. This is an issue that never should have existed, and in reality x should have been abandoned decades ago with a proper replacement.

Lacks essential features because Red Hat and GNOME are morons and this will be implemented anyway causing fragmentation.

Like Xs purpose was running a bunch of terminals, Waylands purpose is to run a bunch of X11 clients.
