I really wonder my more projects don't have a model of "Code is FOSS, you can download a tarball for free, or package it for whatever distro. If you want a pre-built Windows binary with a friendly installer, that'll be $39.99."

      Anonymous

That's actually common on MacOS. A lot of app store shit is based on an open-source project and you can just build it yourself if you know how to use xcode and want to save $10.

It kinda amazes me how much linux devs underestimate people being willing to pay for convenience.
For example, there's nothing stopping people from doing all of their own mechanical work on their car, except for the time, knowledge, and tools required so they hire somebody else to do it for them.
The same concept can apply to foss. I guess that would take away from every linux gays favorite past time which is complaining about the lack of developers, maintainers, funding, support, etc. by actually fixing the issue.

        Anonymous

not only that people avoid even a slight inconvenience like trying a new program that has a different ui even if it's 100x better

        Anonymous

Which is fine but if it's actually my job to do driving for a living, I would at least want to get familiar under the hood of the car and know what is going on so simple issues can be fixed ASAP. But with computers, it's much more of a widespread thing as most of the economy today is digitized in some way or form and subsequently, the jobs that come with that. So no, it's not required you know but it does make life a lot easier if you know what you are doing on a piece of equipment you rely upon to do work.

Github is a tool for programmers to keep track of different versions of their source code & to make it easy for other programmers to contribute to the project. It's not a download/distribution page for releasing software. If a github project becomes very popular, the developer has no control over that and it doesn't mean it was intended to be visited by normalgays and downloaded en masse.

I recently tried installing ReVanced on my phone.
Mind you, I'm not a phone user, I don't know shit.

So I was very surprised to find a bunch of githubs with cryptic information about what must be done.
They don't even mention Youtube, probably afraid of getting struck down, and you have to find the vanilla YT app from a website, then patch it through the ReVanced thing, then install some addons or what-were-they-called, then repatch every week or so when it breaks.

And nothing of that was explained in the github or the main website, I needed to piece together information from israelitetube, Preddit and troonyscord.

    I don't get it.
You're not going to spread your program and your technology by adding extra hoops to it.
The reason people use streaming services is they can just click and consume. By making your alternative opaque to the masses, you create a bubble that won't make any difference in the great scheme of things.

This is the reason why Linux failed to take off even when people were giga-disappointed with Windows Vista.
Win7 was supposed to be the last popular Windows, if freetards focused on making things good and convenient, we'd be shitting on Bill Gates' water right now, he'd have to run it all through a filtration system in order to hydrate himself.

The only software I bothered learning how to use the command prompt for was yt-dlp, mostly because I got tired of always having to pick and choose working websites (constantly changing) and wondering about lossy-lossy conversions.
But that already makes me a turbo nerd.
Still a hassle, would rather have a simple GUI like webmformorons instead of memorizing ffmpeg commands, I have other things to do.

what they're used to it windows freeware gui programs on websites with a big bright download button, what github is is not that, it's a programming website where people share stuff they're working on. not everything is or has to be aimed at the average person
