    >technology board
    >unreasonably angry at the idea of new technology
Is this the sysadmins of this board shitting their pants over the idea of a device that intuitively can control programs and apps? Large Action Models are coming. You'll be replaced just like programmers will be by LLMs.

why could it not been an app?

This is a good point. The idea is that it's supposed to remove all of the negative aspects of having a smartphone and reduce it to pure utility. By owning a smartphone you are opening up your time and attention to targeted advertisements and tech companies that solely exist to keep you scrolling for as long as humanly possibly to extract as much click and attention revenue as possible at the expense of your time and metal health. I don't know if this is the answer, but I am desperate for a product that does something like this. It's the same reason some people are choosing to downgrade to flip phones. I can't go anywhere without my smart phone because our it is so deeply ingrained in our society. I'm expected to be reachable at all hours and locations due to my job and social pressure to always be connected. I would say that more than 70% of what we consume from our smartphones is useless filler and we would all be happier without it.

That's probably the goal of the company, to be bought out by Apple, MS, Samsung, someone big. The hardware device and design is just to capture everyone's attention and build buzz. If they had just developed an app, it would've been panned as just another AI thing.

How does teenage engineering always manage to produce visually repulsive objects? Even the company name is garbage, so is their logo and their website. Their whole product lineup is also all useless trash toys for weirdos.

Big part of "scandinavian minimalism" that TE obviously aim for is that the product is elegantly simplified to its essence and therefore less prone to failure. Sadly they didn't get the memo on either of those qualities.

I can think of a few usecases for it and it's probably a good idea to have this shit separate from your phone.

That being said, I wouldn't trust it to integrate with things like payment processing or banking apps. Just let other people beta test it first and read the reviews when they come out.

useless junk aimed at morons. it further removes the ability to interact with a computer, anyone with a brain to use a computer would not be interested in "technology" that follows this philosophy. this is going to be especially good at robbing redditors considering its vibrant color and cute little animal pixel art.

everyone has their own eugenics project, here's mine: kill everyone who ordered a "rabbit r1" and society will fluooish in two decades.

I think it's neat since it seems a bit wild west with the learning mode they're promising as that'll break a ton of ToS for various services and cause things to be redefined yet again, but I believe that it's a cult at this point for most consumers that expect it to be able to do things a $200 device with low specs cannot reasonably do. The selling point of the camera identifying things has been shown on their discord to take up to 10 seconds before it can really get a reply out and the thing is coming in about two months from now, so I doubt they'll get it x5-x10 faster like they're projecting for responses.

I bought one since I'm a stupid IQfytard that seen parallels to Megaman Battle Network's PETs with the whole AI helper in your pocket bit, but I'm slowly losing more hope as time goes on and more is revealed. Finding out it uses Perplexity now as its AI service of sorts and trying the free version out to get an idea of it has taught me that the AI itself cannot get most answers correct, yet will sound confident in it. I asked it about the worst / lowest selling Megaman games as an example, and it was skewing it to fan perceived worst games and never could answer the question. I also asked it what was like the 64th released game in the series and it would just default to Megaman 64 on the N64, when it should be like some mobile game or something. It'll be a dumb toy that gets put away like Analog Pocket and other stuff people drop money on and then hide their regrets over.

Also expecting controversy where they probably get a bunch of early returns and send "refurbished" R1s out to speed up how fast they can get the next batch out into public hands, and also figure there's gonna be some kind of crypto miner involved in this due to the background of the people involved in this project. Totally expecting data harvesting as well since their website already talks about collecting credit card info and other bits on their privacy section.

Perplexity is great. How are you so bad at AI? It worked for me first time:

      >Including all spinoffs and mobile games, there are over 130 titles in the Mega Man series
      1
      .

      >The 64th game released in the Mega Man franchise, including all spin-offs and mobile games, is "Mega Man Star Force 2: Zerker × Saurian & Zerker × Ninja" for the Nintendo DS, which was released in 2007
      3
      .

What I want to know is, step by step, how do these companies do their marketing? Did they pay to have ten articles written about them within about a day of launching? Their twitter presence wasn't that big when they launched so it's not like their one post was captivating enough to create buzz. Is OPs post part of the marketing? How does the marketing side of it work, step by step?

I like it and I want it to succeed but they need to advertise it beside the "plan this trip" that is basically all what they show, what else? Tell me, can I automate some task? Can it translate in real time? They just need to keep showing the stuff it can do

It's supposed to appeal to people that want to detach from spending so much time on their smart devices but can't really function on its own without being linked to one. It can look up stuff and read off replies to you but unless you use their proprietary "Rabbit Hole" to link your accounts to your R1, it seems like a paper weight for the most part.

I like it and I want it to succeed but they need to advertise it beside the "plan this trip" that is basically all what they show, what else? Tell me, can I automate some task? Can it translate in real time? They just need to keep showing the stuff it can do

They should show more off, but they're very mum about it since it's obvious their keynote was highly staged and they only had the one unit for CES while claiming "we only expected to sell 500 units, not 50,000+ after CES!" a few weeks ago. Sure it can plan a trip, but they make no mentions at all how it does it under the hoods nor does it guarantee the cheapest / affordable trip. It can translate, but they haven't shown it off in action yet, just claiming it will do so between certain languages in real time. They're having a lot of success so far with underage people overhyping it on their discord since they think they can use it to do homework with and other people making claims that they'll use the teaching mode to train theirs to do day trades for them while the team neither denies nor supports such claims and just lets it spread hype. It's been nearly two weeks now since they promised to do a Q&A of the most asked questions, so make of that as you will.

    Buni.

they're onto a winning formula, it just needs to be able to house a loaded AI card as it's personality so it's lile portable friend / netnavi / digimon / AI.

I see it's potential as a toy-like companion device has low-tier utility as a bonus moreso then a utility / work tool, although later models when things improve can definitely cover there as well.
