nothing because they still can't into the latest nodes and even if they do figure it out they'll be sanctioned to hell since uncle sam owns most of the patents

they are already sanctioned dumbass but still managed to cut 5nm chips and moving toward 3nm

Their 5nm isn't economical and 3nm is even less so. Even their execs admit that they would rather solve the issues with 7nm first.

Nothing unless I can sort silicon parts on Amazon with SMIC brand.

  5. 1 week ago

Nothing, since anything using SMIC 7nm is barred from US and EU, as they stole TSMC's IP.
Doesn't really stop aliexpress/wish/etc selling devices using smic 7nm parts, but it does stop actual companies and importing.

    Westoid politicians are so short-sighted.
    >ban China from importing ASML tech
    >China now researches and develops their own in-house chipmaking machines
It just makes them stronger and more independent. They won't just catch up, they'll be better because of it.

Nothing. What we [the consumer] need is affordable lithography.
At that point, I don't care about performance. I care about trust. And I won't trust chinese chip.
Give me the lithograph, give me FOSS blueprint, and I'll handle the rest.

I am banking on 3D printing someday being able to print chips. It won't be nearly as good as the chips from the dedicated fabricators but imagine being able to print a chip that works and you know every single little thing that has gone into it.

bro do you seriously think intel/amd don't have a backdoor for every major law enforcement agency to freely access

I believe its possible and actually probable. At the microscopic scale those things are operating on there would be no way to find a physical backdoor among all that mess. Unfortunately, right now there is quite literally no alternative. You either accept that your hardware has a backdoor in it or you don't use a computer. Someday this state of affairs will be different, just not any time soon.

Government's agencies and their armies have the means to analyze their networks' activity in-depth. Even wireless one.
They'd know. (but would not always act or communicate on it though...)

Easier to just put backdoors in routers and have them snoop on all of your packet data.

They're constantly being told to do so by their media. Everything is for sale in the US, including political opinions - but most do it for free.

bro do you seriously think intel/amd don't have a backdoor for every major law enforcement agency to freely access

Intel ME and AMD PSP are questionable technologies, mostly because they're completely encrypted operating systems running on an ARM co-processor inside the CPU. The utter lack of documentation and the total unwillingness to release source code is reason enough to distrust them.

We could have the chink produce some of the much older chips like the earlier zen, skylake or GPU like RX 580 etc. at a significantly lower price and maybe with some small modern update to them. Too bad that ship has sailed once we decided that we don't want them to stay behind, but for them to go back to nothing.

Best I can give you is : cheap copy of earlier chip, selling for the same price, breaking off earlier, consuming 50 more Watt for no reason, and making your ethernet card send 4Mbps for "no reason".
