What is your antivirus of choice? I went with the most obvious option of Avast + Malwarebytes as a backup. It worked out well enough so far. I felt like a moron when I discovered that you can disable the ads in Avast. I just assumed they were built into the free version.

How is Avast an obvious choice? Its adware garbage that tanked their trust long ago, same as Avg since they bought them. Literally no reason for non-businesses to ever use anything outside windefender these days. It has the exact same capabilities as the rest these days, if not more since ms uses their spy data to improve it. It also doesn't come with all the crap adware others do these days.

    >malwarebytes backup
It's an ondemand anti-malware scanner not anti-virus. Its anti-virus/premium is dogshit but the anti-malware has always been good as second opinion after things like hitman and whatnot.

I prefer the 2007 addition. The internet was a lot more dangerous then and newer version is bloat.

Windows Defender, anything else or extra is just snake oil.
But also, because I'm old, I use malwarebytes.

Back in the day I used Panda Antivirus. Those were the days.

I don't trust MWB anymore. Every time I run it the results are completely different, all of which are files that I know have nothing wrong with them. It also flagged programs I made myself multiple times using whatever shitty AI thing they shoved into it.

Idk, I occasionally get some alert when my email client tries to fetch shady spam mail or stuff like that.
Does it actually have prevented me to get malware? I don't think so, but really I will never know.
