The language is redundant. There's nothing it does that other languages don't already do better.

      depends

if you desperately need a job and are willing to work for $5/hr or less take a look at php or python first

python and bindings to binaries written in whatever meme you want is the only language that matters

      >Is it worth looking into?
      No.

its very simple and has very beautiful syntax.

agreed, if you want to learn a new language, choose the one that stands on the shoulder of giants.

but if you just want to write or God forbid sell software not much can beat Ruby

unless you have 10+ employees, then corpolangs are a better fit

In AD 2024 Ruby is useless for anything other than Rails, and Rails is ancient bloated garbage.
I think the world has collectively settled on Python as the universal prototyping language.

          >I think the world has collectively settled on Python as the universal prototyping language.
Honestly it's a shame. Ruby is great and a real joy to write compared to Python.

It's very fun to write and a complete, utter, chthonic nightmare to read and maintain. Perfect for quick one-off scripts and small CRUD startups, absolutely do not even think about it for anything else.

nah. i went down that path and realized it was worthless. python and PHP won, learn those if you don't know them already.

          Go for servers
          Julia for scientific computing

the only valid usage left for Python is scripting and data processing
I think that when someone finally makes a new scripting language (or lower level but highly expressive) that is good across the board, Python will start to be left behind

Go isn't the lingua franca for server programming by any means, no one language dominates that field. Python is widely used as well.
            >Julia for scientific computing
You're kidding yourself. Scientific computing is largely dominated by Python, Julia is used in a minority of applications.
            >be left behind
At this point, pretty much impossible. The Python ecosystem is so massive that it's just more convenient to shit out python code for 90% of problems now. It's absolutely ubiquitous in anything remotely related to data

Scientific computing is dominated Python only because scientists hate programming

Ruby has beautiful syntax but unless you’re maintaining an old rails app there’s just no reason to use it over Python or bash scripts

biggest apps are still running on based Ruby
oh idk, like Github and Gitlab, where all the shit code of the world resides?

its a beautiful powerful language and a brainlet filter

morons stick to python and php, its no wonder that mediocrity won, and those two are more popular than Ruby, this world is made up of mediocre people
popular thing = npc mediocrity garbage

it is still well paid skill to have
