reddit is literally where every single person who goes to Starbucks everyday instead of making their own coffee, riding an e-bike instead of taking the bus, wearing a fedora during the winter instead of a winter hat, and using a vaporizer pen instead of smoking a pack of cigarettes. they have to be different, and they want the world to notice them. literally a website of narcissists. I hate reddit.

        >Terminally rounded everything
The rounding on menus and windows started probably with the ascendancy of rounded iPhone screens. There's not a good reason to introduce it on laptops. The reasons officially given by the UI team was that it was "friendlier" or something.

The only Windows laptops with rounded screens (like Macbooks now) are Surface Laptop Studios, which no one has. The curved windows look awful on everything else, and legacy menus are too old for the curve to apply to them, making it jumbled. You can disable them with various github fixes, though these, in my experience, get reset every Windows update.

Only a handful of programs round their windows too. Corporate stuff like Firefox, Photoshop, etc.

        >Start menu
So completely useless I don't know if I should even mention. I suppose for a macOS experience, but it's inferior in every way to a modded Startallback setup, or something similar, picrel. Try to type into the searchbar "Format a partition" and you'll get ads, rewards points icons, mario boxes with question marks, etc. Various slot machine-grade boomer candy that American ones don't deal with anyway, and just get Apples. Forced recommended/recent apps section taking up at minimum 20% of the menu, even when disabled.

Windows 10 wasn't good but it was better than this by a longshot.

There are other little things, like the cartoonization of the icons and making them Zoomer colors (purple, turqoise, magenta, cerulean, etc). It just doesn't feel good to use.

You can disable a lot of the clutter, but the next enslaught of jeetery will be the AI features that are coming. The laptop I bought now has a special NPU chip (Neural Processing) specifically to...help the AI assistant work better. Not anything people should use, you can talk to it and get roundabout answers and generated slop pictures of whatever you type in. I don't know why you'd put a kid in front of it either but hey. Poor people get sharted on by Microsoft shareholders.

I was going back and forth between windows and linux for years, running linux fulltime on laptop and dual booting on desktop.

Decided to move fulltime mostly because of disliking MS and finding windows more and more frustrating every time I had to boot into it.

Linux is slowly becoming better as time passes, Windows is rapidly becoming worse.

startallback is p good and the "improved w11" setting should've been the default windows 11 experience if ms had any brains. that being said, im using stock options because i dont mind the new ui too much, it was the ads and forced propoganda shit that killed me until i disabled it.

arch with kde is so fricking nice tho, i like using my Steam Deck docked quite often in my bedroom, windows in the office pc tho.

it runs better than Shitblows and even my games run better. I also can do silly shit like use the old google blob emojis on it, it's nice. xfce is a better DE than the Windows DE will ever be. I also enjoy not having 'ggers or troons in my start menu
I still have my W10 partition on a separate SSD but I very rarely use it, and it's for a single program only

I like some rounding on my app windows, but too much looks wrong. it can be aesthetically pleasing with a low radius. your picrel is too much for me for example

            >not having 'ggers or troons in my start menu
I haven't seen the windows menu for years now; in the rare cases I have to use windows I install classic shell or whatever it's called which brings back a windows 7 style menu. Are you referring to some kind of ad they now throw in the fricking menu?

            Anonymous

haven't seen that myself, but I've seen pics where some tiles in the start menu and/or search bar on the taskbar had propaganda for either of those two groups of "people"
if I'm using a programs menu or a search bar, it's to launch my programs or search something, not to get brainwashed on a product that's not even free to use. honestly how people accept that kind of stuff is beyond me

I'm not the him but I usually use the LTSC version, a few days ago I installed Pro on a friend's PC and the start menu was full of junk as if I had a year of installing junk programs and the taskbar only had at most two programs before it filled up.
That's how horrible the Windows™ experience is.

The seed was planted when I read pic related, especially the first chapter. tl;dr:
    >Xerox gives fancy new laser printer to MIT
    >printer sometimes has paper jams
    >Stallman wants to hack it so a jam will trigger a warning so someone can go and unjam
    >printer does not come with source code
    >Stallman goes to Carnegie Mellon and seeks developer who has the printer's code
    >"Sorry bro, sharing this code is not allowed."
    >Stallman gets so shocked and angered by this dishonorable antisocial stance that he decides to create a whole movement to make software impossible to not share
In other words, if you use proprietary software, you are chained by the developer's decisions. Free software can be modified to go beyond it, and shared so that others can benefit. Free software is morally correct.

and look at how shit printers are today. They have detection systems in place that prevent you from filling ink yourself, cartridges they make literally come with drm that the printer verifies to make sure you aren't refilling them.
The printer also lies and says "low ink" even if you have a decent amount in just because they want you to buy more.
      He was right.

        Anonymous

also I forgot to mention: the cartridges are extremely expensive for literally no reason. They have insane profit margins, they literally hold the printer hostage and make you buy this overpriced junk just so you can use it.
