I just stick to Google unless it's being frickey, then I switch to Yahoo! (which last I checked is just Bing but I feel better using Yahoo!)

yahoo and bing seem like they use the same pool, both look worthless too

Honestly this, the rest most of the time are too big of a hassle to find what you need. If its wasting my time then its useless

SearX. Why? It's open source and can host yourself.

      Searx is a metasearch dipshit.

The image results it gives are really weird, though. I use DuckDuckGo for images.

Brave for everyday searches, the web is saturated so even a mediocre engine is fine, and the AI summaries are good. DDG for image search and second option if Brave fails. SearX for when DDG censors image results, and for site search for sites that the other two don't index for some reason.

      >and the AI summaries are good
I had an AI summary earlier this week that was literally a copypaste from an Amazon review.

        Anonymous

That's how it works, it doesn't seem to process or rephrase the text fragments using AI, it just pulls out bits and strings them together to make a vaguely coherent summary. But for basic searches it's good enough that I've formed a habit of checking it before reading the rest.

I use brave search cuz it supports !bangs. Bonus is that it actually uses its own index and crawler and isnt just a frontend for bing or google like literally every single other search engine.
if you dont know what a !bang is you should just KYS.

ddg was just a mossad front-end to bing which is just a font-end to google. just create a hosts file, check it into a git repo and have the internet contribute to it. you can then diff the commits and see what interesting sites were added.

    Tried most, still searching...

one thing that keeps me using DDG is the excellent keyboard navigation. whereas other sites require you to tab a bunch of times to reach the link you want, in DDG you can just use arrow keys

and if you find the search results insufficient, you can always just resort to !bangs

I've used DDG for a while and my issues with it have been building up over time. It does seem like its search results have been getting worse, and I've had this with it where it ignores search terms unless you put "" and +"" on them (other search engines seemed better about this). I might give Brave a try to see if I end liking it more than DDG or StartPage.
