What do you mean other Schopenhauer stuff? This IS Schopenhauer. This is what he's known for, his magnum opus.

Most people read his ramblings from Parerga and Paralipomena (if not chopped up into other books like "Studies in Pessimism"), so they just think he's Mr. Sad-sideburns and are blind-sided to find out he was a dedicated Kantian.
      >what is this i thought philosophy was just writing down grim thoughts and stuff, what's a thing-in-itself

He's more known for his essays. They're also what made him famous later in life, and up until WWI every well-to-do German family had a copy of "Aphorisms on the Wisdom of Life" in their home, not the World as Will and Representation.

The critique of pure reason, but to understand the problem that it is trying to solve you need to read Hume, and to get the problem for Hume you need to read Locke/Descartes/Spinoza/Leibniz. And to understand where they come from you need to start with the Greeks. So, you should start with the Greeks

It's definitely his most accessible work, but I don't think it's a good introduction, because the rest of his stuff is all hardcore post-Kantian idealism. If you don't mind secondary lit, pic related is a pretty good intro.

Just read WAWAR Vol. 1. Yes, it’s harder than his other essays but you won’t properly understand the weight of his other essays without his metaphysics. I’m not saying you won’t get anything from them, but reading his reasoning behind these conclusions is important.

I know what you mean here, anon. After the technical first book the follow-up essays in the larger second book will return you to what you're accustomed to. A similar shock occurs to anyone who's read many Nietzsche volumes and then decides to pick up The Will to Power. For what it's worth, Tocqueville's Democracy in America is formatted very much like The World as Will and Representation, a small(er) dry technical beginning, many topical essays to conclude.

This is what happens when you actually read the principal work of an individual instead of just supplementary/secondary sources and quotes online. Congrats, OP. However, now you’ll be faced with the hell of arguing with psueds who, knowing only select quotes from online images and nothing of Schop’s metaphysical framework or his views on aesthetics, will simply bash him for being le sad pessimist. This has already occurred ITT and, by the way, occurs with every writer/thinker in existence.

In short: you have actually read, something which hardly anyone else with opinions has done.

that's just because he is, he was always a sad bitter homosexual whos mom didn't love him and a father drowned, had a life of a rich trust fund only to use it on his attempt to understand the human condition. ultimately failing with useless solutions but giving us insight and consideration of how we should view the world.
