it's literally better than shitbuntu. It doesn't collect data and they removed snaps.

good for newbs, though I would argue all you need is the cinnamon desktop. Regardless, my mom's laptop has mint on it and she uses it daily.

If that really matters to you, then use Debian.

Linux for users infected by the Windows workflow, so it's fundamentally flawed. It's a good stepping stone into escaping the Windows style workflow however.

Why not just use Debian and install the DE and packages yourself? Its really easy. You don't need to use some pointless derivative if the prime cut is right there for free.

You say it like it's a bad thing. People have liked Mint for over a decade because the devs only do cumulative updates without trying to reinvent the wheel with every major version.

Best linux distro because it's 99% Ubuntu but Ubuntu has some flaws and is corporate driven. The only drawback linux mint has: the way it looks ootb (or, you could say, if mint offered a kde version instead of mate, or even a kde and gnome version, it would be the king of the linux desktop)

I was using it for a while, really like it, but I preffer rolling release. Arch based rolling Mint would be perfect distro.

xfce mint works like wonders on my shit laptop
    never a problem
    the program manager is good
why should anyone that actually uses his computer install something else like Fedora or Debian? god forbid Arch

      Anonymous

On Fedora/Debian/Arch you can install KDE or Gnome. It's pain in the ass to remove cinnamon/mate/xfce and install only the shit you want. There's nothing wrong with them but I like other DE more.

It’s my goto for single purpose desktop VMs because it has all the advantages of Ubuntu without the globalhomosexual homosexualry (yes I know the developer did a tweet once, I wouldn’t know if it weren’t for you terminally online homosexuals)
    Bare metal though Arch btw

The best distro for gnubes and people who don't want to spend a second configuring things after installation.

Also, whichever of you homosexuals that keeps putting mint on goodwill laptops, good job.

I enjoy using it. Its a good stopping point for the majority of Windows users who want to switch to linux.

I just want my OS to be private, reliable, and have a decent GUI so I dont have to frick with the terminal, and Mint has done a good job at that. I still play around with the terminal, but now I dont feel like I am forced to.

what about the Mint debian edition?

  27. 3 weeks ago

Best Linux distro. Gnome is utterly featureless and therefore useless. KDE is a total UI clusterfrick, its like every feature stripped from Gnome got dumped onto it. Cinnamon is in between. Simple, but you're able to go into more complex configuration if you want to. All the settings are where you expect them to be.

I'm using Ubuntu Cinnamon, right now.
I don't like it's only based on Ubuntu LTS or debian, that's why I'm using Ubuntu Cinnamon and personally like the Ubuntu branding better i.e (theme). I really want cinnamon to have better fractional scaling then this, it's mid and blurry UI. Other than that this is just gnome but with a traditional desktop and has the benefit of it.
