What's The Deal With These Headsets

Are these headsets really worth $4k? Does anyone here own one? What can you do with them that you can't do on a normal computer or phone? Is it better to wait for the next gen while they work out the kinks? Apple isn't known for great gen 1 product releases.

""""smart"""" phones were a thing for years before the iPhone. Wouldn't be the first time Apple releases a dogshit version of a future god tier product. Still not buying it, and probably not version 2 3 nor 4, I'm sick of their hostility towards devs

Yeah, but Apple has an extreme track record on this. Just look at the release of the Iphone 15.

      Anonymous

      Yes
Personally I like to wait till generation 3 or 4 where most of the kinks are worked out, plus the price lowers to a reasonable level
for some reason I notice after generations 5 or 6 and up they seem to raise the price again with fewer and fewer significant changes or differences
the iphone is one such example
the latest iphone has truly no difference from iphone 5 or 6 other than a minor improvement in camera quality and a slightly smaller processor
the battery life has barely improved if not gotten worse in certain cases

        >he reviews hardware except he does not review hardware
        you alright bro?
you're mixing low-cost/high-reach advertising and critical teardown of the device, this dude has never ever reviewed a single piece of hardware...
he obviously has no tech knowledge and does not work with tech people (engineers of many kind like swe, ee physicist, whatever) people that could bring actual data/informations hidden behind the brain damaging propaganda done by companies...
what's even the point of surface-level impressions on devices? it does not tell me anything about the real intentions of the company.
it's a real issue especially with idevices as apple is known to use low-cost plastic and metal, it even started some drama on chinese forums a few years ago and led to many places stopping selling itrash as they were subpar quality, even worse that chinkshit (and it has no changed with this titanium shitshow).
I still watch some of his videos, not for his opinions on things but as a first look on products outside official 3d rendering.
        >inb4 b-b-b-but people aren't engineers and they would not watch
that's why you hire competent engineers to get the data that you tldr to your viewers, gn and ltt do that even though I disagree with how they provide data but do no correlate it to extract meaning.
        >inb4 he is rich and you're poor
does not change the fact that his videos have no added-value over manufacturers propaganda, you both have superficial knowledge about products so obviously his videos resonate with you as fellow tech illiterates, you'll just get scammed and buy trash products and you'll come back in year to see 8k shots of next-gen product you'll buy at a premium meanwhile he get everything for free and outgrew a respectable social class a long time ago.

In my city there are like two companies offering VR gaming sessions for less than €30. It's funny and all when you discover it, but I don't recommend to buy a headset. I have yet to find a smart use of those beside training (e.g. firefighter training). Having a VR walking platform would increase its usability in video games (e.g. Skyrim, Valheim, and even maybe FPS).

VR gaming fricking sucks, that's what Meta got wrong. No one wants to game while standing up, it's too uncomfortable.

Productivity and media consumption through massive cinema displays is the real use case for AR/VR.

Also, Apple solved the input issue, no one wants two clunky controllers to control the interface.

I think there's a market for very well thought full VR games, but most people would rather play traditional flat screen games while seated looking at a massive cinema screen

          >productivity apps for oculus never get used outside of youtube channels shilling them
that's because Meta fricked up with low res displays and garbage user input methods. Apple solved both of those problems

the reviewers are saying "don't buy this"
    it looks ridiculous in public
so if you can burn $4k, buy it and wear it for the memes

my theory: Apple is trying to do 100 different things in one box

instead of solving "music in your pocket" (ipod)
instead of solving "internet in your pocket" (smartphone)
instead of solving "touchscreen tech" (tablet)
instead of solving "tech fashion" (smartwatches)
instead of solving "portable wireless headphones" (earbuds)
they are trying to solve, in one device:
    >zoom calls (facetime)
    >VR (unpopular)
    >entertainment (smart TV)
    >extended display (monitors)
    >gesture control (remotes)

          > A17 Pro is roughly as fast as the M1 (only about 15% slower)

    >Are these headsets really worth $4k?
They are actually worthless. Tech peaked and assumed the final form - desktop, laptop, smartphone. The order is also in terms of value and usability with the phones being barely worthwhile but you get the idea.

My assumption is that a LOT of tech companies will go under or undergo massive mergers and liquidations in the same way cars did in the 80s/90s. What Apple and Zuckershit with his Meta are trying or tried to do is to eek out whatever amount of cash is still possible to extract while fruitlessly hoping that people will be suckered in or that there's a "next big thing" around the corner. The fact is there is none. The tech is here, it's mature, and nothing new is needed, practical, desirable or will be a "thing." We're slowly but surely entering into a post-novelty world and we absolutely need it. At least a hundred years of nothing new. Certain things like the smartphone may even be abolished entirely or be explicitly illegal for kids to use. In any case much of the current heavy hitters like Apple probably won't be around for much longer as these giants of industry because tech is in its sunset phase in the same way heavy industry was in the 1970s - 2000s period.

Is that the young minstrel Spottemgottem?

That Black has been upon my mind, I cannot lie. I am possessed by the memory of the time that I took the young Black roughly from behind, as a man would love a woman. I must confess, his sopping anus was the darkest and yet the most inviting orifice into which I have ever spilled my seed. By God! I cannot ponder a sweeter delight than taking his dark chestnuts into my mouth whilst plunging nearly the length of my arm into his filth. The sweet sounds of the young catamite’s ecstasy haunt my dreams. The boy performed the vilest exertions upon my throbbing staff, whilst a flood of his sweet seed burst forth upon my tongue. I have been secreting to the young minstrel’s chambers nearly every night since. He gives his love freely with no hope of recompense. If you asked for the secrets of my art as to how to master the young Black, I shall speak plainly. All you must do is approach the him with the highest degree of forthrightness and honesty, and take his body in a manful fashion. Play with his ebony-dark chestnuts, serve him upon your knees, and whisper sweet nothings in his ear. The lad does not prevaricate, nor does he caper with the mincing sodomites that lounge in places of ill repute. He favors gentlemen of a strong and manful cast, and well endowed as well. One must be of ivory skin and nearly as tall as a man, and I do not refer to height dear reader.

This young man has pilfered my heart and affections, and eagerly drunk down every pleasure I have shed upon his tongue.

Like the internet and cell phones, the only way this b***h is taking off is with more advanced porno. If the porn industry picks it up, it's here to stay. If not, it's gone in a few years.

Happened with VCR's, DVD's, Blu-Rays, Cellphones and it will happen with this.

morons, the Pro edition is just testing the waters and getting developers involved. IT was never meant to sold to mainstream types. Later iterations will be priced and sold to mainstream once there is a viable ecosystem.

It is a much worse VR headset and a much worse AR headset than items already on the market with a much higher price tag because they're "combined." If you genuinely care about VR or AR you'd buy the much better relevant headset for each niche and you'd save money too.
