The modern equivalent is a smartphone.
What you can do is reverse engineer one to fit your needs. That's actually about to happen to a lot of things coming real soon, especially cars. No one smart will deal with these new globohomosexual cars that are federally required to shut down if you're caught as a dissident. Normal people are going to revive older technology to keep them from being fricked over.

Of overpriced trash? Whatever apple is currently selling. The 16GB version of pic related was king then and is still king now.

        >only problem is it's a max SD card of 256gb
Grow some personal tastes instead of hoarding shit because you know it was popular somewhere sometime and you've heard the name before.

what's schizo about it? is it not technically feasible that an entity such as a policing agency can activate a devices microphone to track sound from it? did you know in 2023 France legalized warrantless surveillance to include microphones, cameras and gps devices in phones, tvs and similar technologies if an investigation suspected people in a certain parameter of a crime or if you yourself were involved in some way? here in the states it's a little different and has been going on for a while under the auspices of the FISA. again, not schizo. it's very real.

Noise cancelling headphones have no storage; the "microphone" only works in real time and instantly forgets whatever it heard.

kek my bad i didn't even picrel the right model, meant to post the current a306

the japanese model offers 35 mw amp power @ 16 ohm plus a high-gain mode, the us/uk model is limited to 1.1 mw @ 32 ohm

the only way is to be aware of which region you're buying from, i'm stateside but found a japanese seller; it was actually 50 bucks cheaper too with free shipping

        >$300 for an mp3 player with 32GB of storage
Sounds reasonable if this were 2004. Also, headphone amps are a meme.

how is the navigating albums and different metadata on surfancs f20 w/ rockbox? say you have 400+ albums, is it cumbersome?

        Anonymous

        >say you have 400+ albums, is it cumbersome?
not much. I have 443 albums. you can navigate by the first letter of albums, or artists. I think that's the fastest way. You can hold the button and you scroll fast on the list of all your albums and you can go right to the last album too. You can search albums too. But modern players and softwares are much faster

the ssd upgrade is shit and rapes battery, if you are upgrading an ipod get the quad microSD card board which is also way thinner so you can get a bigger battery and then remember to only transfer files from within the original ipod os because rockbox fricking cant handle file transfers

        >rockbox fricking cant handle file transfers
They fixed that about a year ago on the latest dev builds. I transferred over about 2TB of my music several months ago using the rockbox firmware and it worked fine.

oh and the western market ones have some volume warning if you turn it up too high, i believe it auto-lowers the volume once to 50 or something but then lets you go beyond the soft-limit if you crank it again

A 1TB iPhone with Apple Music and wired EarPods.

Apple Music app still acts pretty much the same as always, it's a barebones music library. You can still use your own offline music.

The iPhone will live forever in a music-only mode without the constant streaming.

All the niche players like the ones listed in this thread existed during the iPod times and are irrelevant.
