I use the term "program" for something with a relatively narrow focus, especially if it can be piped or is meant to run with minimal interactivity. For example, I refer to "sed", "lsblk", and "cp" as programs. I view an "application" as a larger and more complex software package, with lots of functionality and meant to be used as a one-stop-shop for a certain higher-level task. For example, Firefox, GIMP, Spotify, and Audacity are applications.

      Satisfyingly based

Because nobody says "program" outside of third worlders, you don't program a program, you program an application.

Application of compiled code (a program) to a computer to do something a user wants. Contrasting that: crapplication if it fails like a POS. Still sounds dumb, but I hate the word app with a burning passion.

Because nobody says "program" outside of third worlders, you don't program a program, you program an application.

Programs are run/executed hence executable file.

application is the interactive layer between the user and the OS, a program isn't necessarily interactive

he delivered a thousand babies, he's the only politician who was also morally a good person, and he's the standard by which I judge all others, morally speaking. I was reading RT in 2012, and he was also a candidate which russia actually did want to be president, because if he pulled us all out of the middle east then russia could step in. Weak? Yes. The world would have run roughshod over us had he been elected, I'm not that stupid. He wasn't evil enough to force a man to stop a bus carrying all his delegates. That was all it took to beat him.

silly zoom zoom, the term application was invented by apple on release of the iphone because it has the same first 3 letters as their company and that's just good marketing. I still say program, I refuse to say application, ever, because it's the wrong word. Say you use a paintbrush to apply a layer of paint to a wall. The brush is not the application, the layer of paint is the application. Now say you use a program to complete a homework assignment, the completed homework is the application, not the program you used to complete it.

no, if you look at 1st gen iphone ads they explain the buttons on the screen are called "apps", that was when the term was introduced

emphatically no. the terminology has seen use longer than your dumbass has been alive by some margin. https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/251653/why-is-an-application-called-an-application/251700#251700

for the rest of you morons: this shit is codified in many places. try reading before shitposting on IQfy now and again.
