No, it was objectively better. Society was more optimistic back then and technology was not yet dystopian. Also, tech did innovate and tried new designs and features.

They still do, they just don't look as interesting because smartphone designs necessitate the front of the screen is a black slab. But like folding phones are a thing, even designs like the flip phones which have basically no practical use for their folding other than being neat.

the memphis design had the most sovl with all the colors and shapes but it doesn't have the same optimism Y2K and Aero had
Flatshit is the worst of the 4. It lacks any theme, vision or essence and its only purpose is to be retrofitted into all types of screen sizes and resolution
And the worst part is that it will probably stay like this until the end of time

This, the PS3s and PSPs XMB, and the Wii Channel Menu were absolute peak console UI and it's only been downhill since.

    5. Flat design

I hate how the flat design came in but I get it that it's so it can scale much more easily (like it's vector art or something). I see that they tend to end every ten years, so looks like we're about due for something (hopefully) better

Are you one of those zoomie babies who feels nostalgic for shit they never got to experience? No particular shame if so, seems to be really common

I don't feel nostalgia for it, but I do find a lot of it much cooler than what we have. Like I don't know how someone can look at windows 7 and windows 10 and with a straight face say 10 looks better. 11 was a bit of an improvement at least, in terms of overall aesthetics at least.

It's "i liked a guy that liked the thing" kind of nostalgia and you can dive all the way through human's history. Someone out there is living through Shumerian fantasies phase.

Yeah, if done right the best in terms of efficient navigation. Fricking shitphone design completely wrecked desktop websites. And programs.

For no reason too. Websites can have separate layouts for phones and desktops, they didn't need to focus the design of desktop versions to be phone friendly
