get a surge protection cord sir, its like $20 but can save life to all tech connected to it, or even better buy the cheapest UPS

          >surge protection
are the 'surges' coming from the electrical supply? If that is the case the adapters handle it, right? At worst I might need to change an adapter but the plug types are all standard so no big deal
          >cheapest UPS
this is a poor mans setup. bottom is a recycled laptop, the router I got in a Walmart clearance section for 12 bucks
non of the services I'm running is mission critical or anything, ill get a ups when I make a real homelab

        >laptop motherboard, in service, shoved in a cracker box that's not even the correct size
Why would you photograph this and post it on the internet? You should be embarrassed and ashamed.

          >not even the correct size
it is the right size, i stripped 2 screws so i now have a backplate stuck to the motherboard until further notice. The original laptop had juice spilled on it and went uncleaned a year so some of the screws were impossible to undo
          >shoved in a cracker box
it pretty comfortable. the laptop had a heat plate which I reapplied with new thermal paste. Its running ubuntu server on a celeron, it'll be fine

have you really never had a sesame snap?

what's your software setup and how much traffic does the Pi handle?

        Anonymous

I set the pi up weeks ago, but found the only software I needed running (wekan) moronicly has an x64 binary dependency with broken ARM build scripts. I'm in the process of setting it up on the laptop motherboard, right now the pi is only running an OpenVPN server. Not that much traffic, since the router is connected to internet by WWAN.
Both computers are running Ubuntu server, the router is running OpenWRT.

expected something more sophisticated but still nice.
How do you set the laptop without display, most refuse to even show bios through VGA/HDMI ports?

            Anonymous

I tested out the HDMI BIOS out before gutting the entire laptop. It works on this laptop for some reason. Ubuntu has a headless installation mode if it didn't however, but I didn't need to go down that route.

            no it's based
that junk would probably be sitting in a drawer otherwise

its a shitty lenovo ideapad with soldered ram and storage. The storage failed (probably due to the juice) so the laptop would be trash if I didn't decide to use it as a server

The only good use for them in current year is filling them with illegal content and then tossing them into the houses of politicians you don't like.

If you can manage that, toss in an empty condom wrapper instead to sow dissension because both parties knowing their own innocence ensures they will presume the other guilty. Even if the finder does not choose to react you'll have done possibly permanent damage to trust. If the finder is prone to anger and violence hilarity may ensue.

To further muddy the waters throw in a hair scrunchy. There is no good way to interpret that either and two unknown objects not supposed to be there reinforces the idea it's unstaged.

years ago when usb sticks were like 128MB or less the market got flooded with 1GB drives that in reality were like 16MB with a phony firmware so if you wrote a big file it just got overwritten and corrupted

        are these the same?

yes only now it's 64GB chips reporting themselves as 2TB drives.

I use them to give video to police fairly often. corporate police dictates we can let the officer use their own drive but that we prefer new, clean media
