There's orders of magnitude less revenue to support developers working on good UX, debugging compatibility issues, etc.

    Examples?

LibreOffice. I downloaded a PDF from Google Docs, opened it up in Draw to remove a page, and it changed the font, corrupted the spacing of words, kerning, etc.

I'm sure there's some fix for this, but like most Linux issues I've gotta spend like an hour of my time fixing the most simple shit. When amortized, you probably save more money just buying well polished proprietary software.

Google suggests LibreOffice Draw as the Linux PDF editor, which failed.

I decided to just use my Macbook Pro, and Preview can easily remove a page with no issue.

the very first answer says pdftk if you bother to scroll a bit you find a gtk tool. I don't get why you would use libreoffice draw for this anyway you might as well use inkscape if you need to edit pdf text.

out of all the cringe broken freetard shit out there you chose to talk shit about fricking libreoffice? skill issue

This is the example of an hour of my time btw. I've always been able to solve my problems with Linux, but it's always been tedious as hell. And this is one example of many.

Not even Microsoft Office can do this, you used the tool for the wrong purpose.

Libre Calc is awful. I can’t believe that there’s no viable alternative to Excel, free or proprietary. There’s no “skill issue” here.

Because there is little to no monetary gain for the people developing the software, which means there is no incentive to code properly or develop a better solution.

Then you need to explain why there is an incentive for it to exist in the first place.

I meant incentive to improve the free and open source software to a point it surpasses the paid one.
No foss will ever be as good as its paid equivalent.

Everyone can start an open source free alternative. But no one wants or will ever pour time and resources to make it good.

Better closed source alternative to Chromium, Blender, OBS, and free BSD? (macOS is built on this btw)

            Anonymous

Chromium is a 100% Google funded project and a vehicle for Google to control the entire internet. Blender started out as a proprietary tool and then got lucky during the 2000s with sponsors after Blender got dumped as the company went bust. FreeBSD is unusable by the average user. Apple makes it usable and with that earns literal billions from it. Freetards just can't match the economic reality, and things will get even worse for freetard communists now as the golden years are over and former lolbertarian autists realize just how dumb it is to work for free while companies earn fat checks from their work and their own paychecks get smaller and smaller. Stallman scammed an entire generation into working for free but things are thankfully changing.

You simply are used to a different workflow. He uses both his only complaint is that one takes an extra click. By that same logic some other task would take an extra click in photoshop. Who cares? The benefit of open source software is that it's customizable and scriptable to match your workflow.
Now if you run into an actual problem like insane encode times or no hardware support then sure. But 1 extra click seems like an acceptable trade for a more customizable program.

The video talks about collaboration platforms being too technical for most people, therefore contributions are mostly limited to code itself instead of design and interface assets.

gimp didnt have the ability to do layers for like 20 years which significantly crippled it in terms of being comparible to adobe.

      Anonymous

which in turn made people not care about it, not want to support or recommend it, ect ect. This was especially bad in the early years, because adobe outright allowed people to pirate photoshop knowing full well that they would be forced to get licences if they ever got a job that utilized photoshop (before software as aservice was a thing). So your option was garbage gimp that you would only use to prove you are a linux autist, or free professional software that could do everything gimp could do and more.

When i was in highschool. the computer department would let you take home adobe cds and install with the school licenese. adobe knew exactly what it was doing getting people hooked on their product.

Kdenlive could use better, more hardware agnostic foundation. Their issue is not missing functions but weak compatibility and the result is more bugs than usual. I don't want to see new features that only work with new nvidia graphic cards. Fricking fix old shit first.
