yes but I genuinely rarely see this type of behavior of "Sysadmin from hell" mentality from devs. you'd think software engineers would be cut from the same cloth in terms of tism.

but why? I don't get it. Why become an it monkey if you hate that? It's so weird when I see tards being mad because their helpdesk or "Sysadmin" (support lol) job requires them to actually help clueless people use tech. it's like a nurse being mad that patients are Ill. it's like they want the entry job aspect of it but without actually learning a skill or having an expertise

Not planning to debate the morality of it, but this seems like a grudge to me.
Nonetheless, it might as well be a fake story and OP seems like quite the homosexual the ways he worded the thread.

tbh Reddit stories are always fake but this one kind of seems real since it's not worded like a writing prompt. it has basic facts and in the replies OP didn't actually disappear. plus, I could actually see some autistic tard doing this to own the user whenever he doesn't have anything to do

        untrue
i'm trying to leave the field for a dev roll rn, and back in school for AI
plenty of IT people (especially competent (read: white)) hate the work they do and the people they work with because there is an almost universal lack of accountability in such departments/orgs due to a number of factors
i've also met plenty of devs that were malicious/lazy
largely depends on an individual basis, but it boils down to DEI creating a glut of technicians turned admins that either lacked intelligence or aptitude, countless bureaucratic groups springing up around the brain rot to keep the boat on course, and introduced inefficiencies and broken accountability chains caused by said groups
        >t. 10 year """career""" in IT where topping out at the IC level required me to make excel spreadsheets day-in and day-out, making sure my team follows and maintains our documentation (they never did), and justifying to management why certain tasks were incomplete or poorly implemented postmortem when all things needed for success were outlined in the right order and on-time

Because the devs don't have to herd cats, the sysadmins do. Put people in power over others and their shittyness comes out.
Think of your cool dev bro that made lead and turned into a c**t. Once you're managing people the real you comes out.
That and sysadmins aren't really your manager right even if they're forced to work with you. So that also puts them in a situation where if they do want to get back at you they have to be passive aggressive little b***hes and do it indirectly.

But still, it comes down to how you're forced to deal with people. Like a service.

        Anonymous

honestly I still don't understand why sysadmins are called sysadmins if they do end user support (not just like for devs but for example, if they have to deal with laptops or whatever). I know DevOps is the new Sysadmin but at that point you're just an IT specialist or whatever. places like r/sysadmins devolved into helpdesk shitters or cope ("you always got to start from help desk!!!!") so it's impossible to actually find anywhere where "sysadmins" don't act like mentally ill depressed losers.

I dunno, but I can confirm they are asshats that are mad with power.

For example I once got locked out of some system due to one of my scripts trying to login with an old password.

I asked the guy to reset it, and he literally gloated to me for like half a day before I went over him and asked my boss to force him to fix it.

Another time, when we were WFH, I got my RAM upgrade mailed to me. I installed it. When he learned about it, he remotely bricked my laptop due to 'unauthorized hardware modification'

Another time I got a new laptop he promised he wiped clean, and the second drive was full of the previous owners stuff.

yeah, it's god complex. it reminds me of the new crop of cybersecurity morons who just fall back to stonewalling whenever you push back on something super stupid and it shows how dumb they are. instead of discussing stuff they just completely sperg out. and I'm talking about being super gentle and trying to find a compromise

(example, scanning old unused docker images and flagging them as having vulnerable code because of some python CVE local vuln that literally cannot ever be a problem since it's not and cannot be a problem and the image is only kept in case we want to replicate an old build. but they don't understand what a container is, what it involves, what a docker image is vs a running container, etc. but they will invoke CVE score 2.3 like spergs and literally bullshit about the rest. so they just get bypassed anyways and treated as useless)

You'd have to be mentally ill to have things constantly get changed and never paying attention. Even a six year old can figure out if someone is playing tricks on them because the rational thing to do is to pay attention and watch for the trick.

An entire office full of midwits (or worse) whose understanding of computers amounts to "I click this button and then I click this button and I get a paycheck". If they click a button and expected result doesn't happen, it's the computer's fault, they were never trained, the step by step instructions with pictures they have are wrong or they lost them, everybody else pretends they don't know how to do it either, they lie about clicking it, it's their co-workers fault, it's their bosses fault, they're being hacked, their computer is old/slow, their Facebook shortcut is gone, and it's your fault you didn't anticipate the particular rube goldberg machine of ass-backwards productivity-destroying backflips they do instead of what they were told to do. It's never their fault. They turn into the Black folk on TV being arrested, they screech and lie and ignore instructions and they dindu nuffin mane.

Frick no and your company would then probably actually get rid of you if you brought them in at that point. You'd be the snitch who brought in the board of labor who now probably wants to know what tax or accounting documents were also altered by unauthorized persons. Enjoy literally getting WFH shut down and everyone hate you, get a new job.

No saar, you will not get away this easily 🙁

The police can't really do anything unless he was breaking a law of falsifying financial records that the OP was in charge of, which would basically spawn a huge audit on the company from the tax services. IDGAF about it but what will happen is the company would get ripped a new butthole in an investigation for their financials and would pull everyone back in to be micro managed.

Since the guy was fired it would be a mess of a case besides what spurred the new IT guy to directly look at OP's work specifically then approach him lol? OP is either trolling(I hope) or he's seriously mental (possible) or both.

If this was going on for 10 years I would have fricking quit the second my PIP was done because I know I'd be a marked man.

Apparently the company is also liable because they have a duty to make sure something like this doesn't happen. If she will leave anyway she could settle for much cash.

            Anonymous

Nah I'd be wondering what their data security laws and such would say, going to the police would kill any out of court style settlement. They best OP could hope for in that reddit thread is going to HR discussing your options about back pay, if they say nothing potentially go to the labor workforce and explain the situation. Just make sure you're ready to NOPE out of that job because that audit is most likely going to destroy the company if financial documents have been knowingly altered, it's generally going to fall under a fraud issue because they need to see if numbers were changed. That could just be the nail in the coffin for a place like that

This reeks of a mentally fat cow making shit up

while writing this post, i came up with 4 different methods on how this guy could prove and prevent the tampering. as i always say, most nocoder white-collars earn their living with knowledge that would take us 1 day to learn.

Lawyer here, aka a "nocoder white-collar"

You are a baby if you think you can do my job in less than one day

My job is to fool other lawyers, aka to fool people whose job is to fool others. It's like your job being to troll trolls, it's not an easy task. The game is always changing and will always change, it is PvP.

Your job is to deal with mathematical problems. It is PvE. And your kind loves boasting about how they can do their job in 1 day, then chill the remaining days of the week.

      We are not the same

      You are weak

You have no idea how hard it is to prove someone didn't do something. It's 4D chess at its finest. And let's not even get into car accidents which might as well be the epitome of human knowledge. Meanwhile your job can be done by AI.

If you fool your peers, you'd get a bad reputation and nobody would trust you, not even judges. You must be new to this game. The law is as easy to learn as the law is moronic. Sure it takes time, but it takes a good brain to enjoy mathematics.
        Also, reddit spacing, homosexual.

          Anonymous

You have no idea about any of the shit you are talking about. Even reddit spacing, which is quite a pity, because even the one and only thing you put effort into (IQfy) is still half assed. Pic related.

And like I said, mathematical puzzles are PvE. I am not saying they are boring (in fact I do them for fun), just easy. Being a lawyer is PvP.

If Bob left the country there is a greater than 99.999% chance nothing will be done.
At best, the company gets a lawsuit for gross negligency and reddtard has to resign after getting a payout
At worst, the company has enough legal paper work to shield themselves and reddtard doesn't have enough money to fight it and then gets fired

They’re typically low-IQs, people who would have been manual laborers, drivers, factory workers, call center agents, data entry clerks, etc in the past, but IT has opened up a huge white collar desk job opportunity for those people and BOY did they jump on it. It’s not that they’re especially mentally unsound, they’re just doing a job they don’t really have the cognitive ability to handle well.

      Anonymous

yeah it's like if factory workers were allowed to just slack and seethe at the products they make. and also pretend that they are actually more qualified than them. reminds me of the post where a fricking IT dude was basically asking if he should report a physics professor because he asked and got a PC with 2 GPUs so surely that means he wants to game on the clock. just completely clueless and mentally moronic, never wonders if he's missing something about the professor

though I would take blue collar people any day of the week before a fricking it monkey.

The redditor messed up their time tables and scale of the company. People in a ~20 person company would put together "bob" on a frick up or realize how just enough weird shit is happening to start asking questions to the IT guy and eventually an outside source to see if they have been hacked. 10 Years is all you need to see to understand how BS this story is, they should have said something like "ever since covid" to make this more believable. While I am all for shitting on people like Bob, the user is totally fudging shit here. It's really unlikely bob managed to run this game in a small company for a decade without fricking up this game even once.

    Either
    A) This is a decently crafted troll
    B) The user is leaving out some details or heavily exaggerating them
C)The redditor has a lawsuit so big they will never have to work another day in their life once a lawyer hears this.

    I'm going with a mix of A/B.

Someone doesn’t know about search and replace for abbreviations. Office has had this feature for over 20 years. It’s a hoot. The dumbass probably left his workstation unlocked and some jokester got ahold of it. He probably thinks it’s some magic feature that sysadmins conjur up. What a dumbass.
