Weed is technology. I had a girlfriend that got extremely horny every time she smoked weed. It got to where "i just got some weed" or "i just smoked" was code for please come frick me. Instead of working on pcbs or coding java you should be cultivating dank herbs. Its harder than either of your topics and also pays much better.

    > PCB design is 10x more difficult than programming
Tf you talking about? 99% of PCBs that get designed are simple 2-3 layer "Connect these pins here to those pins there" and then shifting the layout to make it not a complete rats nest.

Even a fricking moron like myself was able to learn KiCAD and build an oddly shaped H-bridge in the course of a few hours.

PCB design only becomes challenging when you start working with signals above a couple dozen MHz.

I'm taking a masters course in it, there are so many variables that you need to take in account to pass automotive EMC tests, even for relatively simple boards.

      >Differential mode noise
      >Common mode noise
      >Loop minimization for the above
      >Not interrupting return paths
      >Tactically dividing up ground layers and making sure the connections are done via ferrite beads or back to back schotky diodes if dealing with high frequencies
      >Proper signal routing
      >Proper power supply routing
      >When you are almost finished the last 3 connections frick up your whole project and you need to start over

I programmed in PCL/OpenCV and SciKit learn before for money and this is way way way harder.

        >there are so many variables that you need to take in account to pass automotive EMC tests, even for relatively simple boards.
And 99% of PCBs don't need that shit because they aren't being put into literal 2-ton hunk of plastic and metal going 70MPH with people in it. They're being put into IoT devices that need to read an i2c sensor and blink some LEDs using some premade STM32 microcontroller that's doing all the work and sending the data to some datacenter in the middle of China.

        > I programmed in PCL/OpenCV and SciKit learn before for money and this is way way way harder.
No shit? Those libraries are doing 99% of the heavy lifting and are commonly used by people who know jack shit about programming. If you were getting paid good money to work with those then god damn you should keep that job. Those are the kind of tasks my company gives to interns.

    >Why are
basic economics, learn it. If someone is being paid less for something that seems more difficult, it's because of supply and demand. Too many PCB designers for the demand of such vs not enough Java code monkeys for the demand. You have thousands of firms hiring code monkeys to build their business logic everything from web dev garbage to pay stubs management, there's only a handful of firms creating hardware and even less designing their own PCB

i think its because people who enter these niche specializations tend to be autistic and task focused so its easy to make them sit down and just work for middling pay. people who learn general purpose programming languages especially corporate shit like java are more likely to be trying to get the bag and have better skills and more focus at schmoozing and climbing the ladder

Because most engineering is more rigid and instructional whereas programming requires more creativity. It's like installing Gentoo vs doing good ricing.
