Boys read romantic books. It's just more in the classical sense thereof.

This. There are plenty of classic books which include romance and some which center almost exclusively around romance. Men read these while women read modern romance schlock

And anime, like this guy said.

I was wondering why there isn't more romantic books aimed at men. I guess anime harem fits the bill.

      But also video games.
Women may have homosexualy romance novels, men have homosexualy VN's.

Why do boys read self-help slop but girls don't?

A lot of them do but all of them just contain confirmation bias. Telling a woman to work on herself is considered the equivalent of rape by an unattractive male.

I have the opposite experience. Women tend to read selfhelp books while men tend to read philosophy/religious books.

      Everybody reads self help garbage.

Well, they both do but each read their own type of self-help

      >men's self-help
      >actually put in the blood, sweat and tears
      >work out
      >become charismatic
      >make money
      >tangible solutions

      >women's self-help
      >bee yourself 😀
      >literally everyone should accept you for who you are, no matter how shitty or used up without any sort of instrospection

There are legit some good self-help books if you know where to look. I've never seen self-help tips for women that isn't like the above. Like the other anon said, holding women accountable is a crime against humanity nowadays

It's very unbecoming. I always had the longing for romance in my school days. It doesn't do you a bit of good if you're male. Women are allowed to have their head in the clouds, have their little whims answered by their imaginations. They can afford the luxury of tickling their fancies with the stale and uninspired words of a young adult novel. I wish someone would have told me sooner just how easily your life can be stolen away from you by those daydreams, that dissociation, the delusion of romance playing out in your mind's eye. It's incredibly destructive. The despair you can face is unlike anything else. Life won't ever measure up to those flashes of the things you wish you had. For me, it only got better when I realized that fact, and took what I had and attacked those notions and refused to entertain them. Romance in the sense that you describe is not just time better spent elsewhere, but will ruin you as a young man.

Romance should be all they read or care about philosophically. Constant sad pedophilic themes and no direct romance because it's always really about something else. That's easily the most popular genre with roasties too but they never talk about it that way. It's like they don't even know why they are reading them. Girls just accept that its slop and think its about people or whatever. But obviously for a man it would become erotic and mystical. It would literally touch at the Kantian 'heart of it all' through Roussean revenge at the people. The totalizing 'erotic possession' of them is the fantasy... that's art

Famous fat Black person Patrice O Neal would say that romance is something that men do to women, not the other way around. Women provide sex. Men don't want to spend time doing "fun, spontaneous, romantic" things with a woman, but this is the toll they would extract from us, much the same way a man wants to frick. Wasting our time hanging out with a woman is their way of fricking us.

To get the answer to this you only need to see the top podcasts among men and women.

    >men: The Joe Rogan Experience
    >women: Call Her Daddy

Women are literally obsessed with their pussies. I don't see how anyone can live in the 21st century and still think women are the more "romantic" gender

Boys do sometimes. But the answer should be obvious really. Temperament.
Also, don't be so reductive. Some of the most sober minded, intelligent people I've met have been women. They're just not your typical woman, typically.
And I'd wager most of us aren't your typical man. The reflective animal is an altogether different beast, but still a beast.

Because none of them appeal to male romantic fantasies.
All romance novels are one of:
    >blonde generic girl chooses between very rich guy and somewhat rich guy who is aittle rough around the edges
    >the apex of masculinity rapes a girl and stays around after
No modern books cover the male romantic fantasy
    >established but not exceptional man wins the heart of a young lass and is her introduction to romance and sex.
The closest you can find is stuff like CoMC, where at least this is a subplot

This is dead on. I read "The Rosie Project" which was supposed to be the first great modern mainstream romance novel aimed at men. It's literally just a female romantic fantasy from the point of view of the man. The MC is a tall, super-handsome and super-fit man who is a super-genius who meets and falls in love with a dyed-hair b***h bartender. He then proceeds to change everything about himself in order to be with her and works tirelessly at that goal. Multiple times, she rebuffs him or breaks up with him. They don't even have sex until the last chapter.
It's almost like publishers don't allow themselves to what men really fantasize about romantically.
For me, I fantasize about meeting a girl with brown curly hair and big breasts who loves WW2 history. We'd bond over our mutual obsession with WW2 and other hobbies. She'd be able to banter and wouldn't be a b***h whenever I teased her or argued with her. I'd be her first lover and she'd be mine.
You'd never see ANYTHING CLOSE to a real male romantic fantasy in any modern novel.
Another thing, I have never seen a realistic male POV in a novel that wasn't grimdark. Healthy and non-elderly men are constantly thinking about sex, and we notice the sexual characteristics of pretty much every woman we meet. In The Rosie Project, the MC never once thinks about Rosie's boobs or her butt. Not once.
