Why do people hate 'gizmos' nowadays?

Why does everyone want everything to be an app now?

Aren't these gadgets why people become tech fans?

Because it was an an app, moron.
it was made by idiot zoomers.
And was running on a shitty device with a battery life of half a day. Oh joy.

200 dollar "gizmo" scam that's only delivered 1/10 of the promised features with the rest coming "later"

yeah that back in time when gadget had reasonable use cases

but in case of this device, most mobile phone can do what it does, so there is no reason to buy it

That sort of industrial design would have been a great mp3 player 20 years ago. The convergent evolution on the smartphone as the 'everything' device really does destroy the niche for this sort of shit.

I wouldn't call the hardware overpriced.
      I'd just call it shitty.

I'm already carrying my phone. It does most things that I need it to and I can't really go without it since I use it for work. Why would I want to carry around something else with a worse interface, limited functionality, and shit battery life instead of integrating what it does into my phone?

I didn't spend hundreds of dollars on a device that does everything so that scammers could sell me a device that doesn't do everything, but is the same on the inside as the device I already have that does everything.

There is no reason for this gizmo to exist. At least the laser projector one has some USP even if it's equally useless. You already own a phone with better hardware in every way. What an egregious waste of effort and engineering for this trash, while the catgirl issue remains unsolved.

People are fine with gizmos, people aren't fine with apps pretending to be gizmos.

Nah let's spend $200 for useless shit that is an app in a box instead. Good riddance to this moronic zoomer shit as far as I'm concerned.
I can shit out a fricking arduino contraption that is more useful than this over a weekend and for $20.

Nah even better, lets spend $200 on a Google Lens (or equivalent app) feature thing with AI functionality which can't replicated on the phone apparently by their AD campaign of the first AI powered phone or some BS. Like I was going to buy this thinking I will enjoy a minimalist lifestyle with this phone but this shit quite worse.

    1. the economy is not good enough for it
    2. landfills are already full, no need for more
    3. even if you blast it in the space when you are done with it, what are you even using it for?

lemme guess - the roller on the right is completely useless, just added to appeal to hipsters?

It's worse than useless. The thing actually has a touch screen but it's disabled to force you to use the roller. And it's not even smooth scrolling, you must rotate it quite a bit before it decides to move the selection.

Gadgets are still decently popular but they need to be at least a different experience from their alternative (stuff like keyboards, audio stuff, trackball/mouse, steam deck, eink tablets...). If the gadget is a strict subset of another gadget you should already own (which is also open enough to allow third parties to add that functionality) then it shouldn't exist.
