It's not that third worlders love AI, it's that western culture is dominated by memes and viral narratives, and currently hating AI is hip, so it brings down the approval compared to the average.

Correct, and troons dominate the public awareness of "social issues" like AI (and yes, AI is widely considered a social issue, other nations don't have this problem)
Most people filling out these forms about their approval of AI don't even know or care what AI is, and their answer comes from social posturing. All this poll proves is that people in developed nations currently think disapproving of AI is the "correct" answer

It's true though. Look at the newest smartphones too for instance. Both Apple and Samsung are aggressively advertising their "AI" features like being able to edit your photos to put in fake shit that was never in the original image (eg. giving your friend a false smile in a selfie). Sounds like you know some based people tbh.

Anyway there is probably an online/offline divide. On the internet, every single major social media platform is astroturfed to frick with AI shit. Youtube is full of AI videos, Instagram/Pinterest is full of AI images, Etsy is full of AI scam products, and Reddit is full of morons geeking out about le singularity being just around the corner. If you went solely by what's going on online, you'd think the whole world loves this shit. But IRL you are more likely to come across the people who are completely fed up of technological "advancements" and how they are destroying the fabric of society.

google just launched a recurrent one two days ago
          the landscape is shifting rapidly
we went from theoretical papers on transformers and attention, to mixture of experts, to recurrent in less then a decade. Most of these big advancements are in the last 2 years.

as with most things where you shove in a feedback loop, recurrent systems are naturally more prone to chaos but also can achieve the same result in less time/computation with fewer parameters

Will recurrent LLMs achieve AGI? Maybe not, but it could very well be a key component.

What really bothers me is people throwing around AGI as if we’re anywhere near it. Actual AGI would make current “AI tools” look like an abacus. It’s pure midwits who fell for all the marketing and flashy bullshit.

Not really. Humanlike or better AGI may be almost exactly like simple refinements on LLM's training and a few expert systems tacked on. Yep, it's how that looks rn, no real contradictions with this view so far.

            Anonymous

quite frankly its hard to tell what'll happen in 5-10 years
It all really hinges on the definition of AGI.
Also a lot of people are stuck on the "consciousness" thing but can't really come up with a reasonable definition that doesn't step into "soul" woowoo. There's a lot of mental gymnastics around the idea that our consciousness derives from a bunch of bio-electrical and biochemical interactions.

Until a solid, testable definition is nailed down people will have radically different interpretations of whether "we're there yet".

I can tell you why because I often consult on this shit (as a lawyer, no longer a techie). It basically boils down to what says, but I'll elaborate.

A lot of midwits mistakenly assume that leaning into some sort of new tech (crypto, AI, NFTs, Web 3.0) will allow them to catch some sort of wealth wave. Absolutely zero of them are willing to actually dive in and start fricking coding, but they'll definitely fart around conferences, play with ChatGPT, and generally just insert themselves into areas that don't require actual skill. It's the kind of mentality that generates a lot of mediocre business plans that involve stapling rudimentary AI models to existing business structures, and unfortunately it's the kind of shit that SF used to fund blindly until the money began to dry up. Stated differently, these morons were actively ENCOURAGED because there were some times in which their bullshit would actually invite investment.

I was literally on the phone with a team of these guys this morning. All of them were third worlders with marketing or business degrees who were very excited about the "promises of AI" but glazed the frick over when I asked them a fundamental/basic b***h question (something like whether they tried an unsupervised classification algorithm for some basic task). All of them were excited about the possibility of making money, absolutely zero of them had the foundations or had even bothered fricking around with a single line of code.

I was in India recently, and it's pretty sad to see this shit play out in real time. It's a bunch of 20something dudes in cheap suits hoping that they're gonna become Elon Musk 2.0 if they invoke the right incantation of technology concepts that they barely understand. I feel for them (it's got to be extremely limiting to be born in a shitty economy full of idiots), but it's annoying as hell.

While in the US, we've largely been stagnating with real growth being very low single digits. Other developing countries are seeing high single digit, double digits, etc growth. Libertarianism was always just anarchism for nominal conservatives. America died in the 70s and the social anti structure in the form of homeschooling, the libertarian movement, etc is just the stench of the corpse.

IMO it sounds like a stillborn ideology and not really worth worrying about. The midwits will get dragged around by whomever ends up in front of them and we should focus on that. In these kinds of crisis the real fight is in the meta politics and the fractured lines among the elites. We'll get our champion and he will walk all over these people.

Just look at someone like the Pope. He's made time to make public statements about the most inane shit, like how he doesn't like people using pet dogs/cats as substitutes for real children. Yet he doesn't have anything to say about AI, one of the most major public debates in the world today? Extremely suspicious.

Tradcath here: Proxy-children is a well understood social issue, AI is still extremely nebulous and even the people actively building it don't have any well defined ideas about what it will end up being used for. The pope and other religious figures are probably waiting to see where things fall out because literally nothing is predictable at the moment and they don't want to look silly.

glorifying the value of labor is a western thing, its all they know. People centre their entire lives on working a job for a corpo there. In eastern countries, its just a means to an end to eat. In the west, its part of who you are. And then on the flipside the west has nuanced discussions about unions and things. The east doesn't give a shit about unions.

Not saying that's necessarily bad btw, its just a difference in values. With a few exceptions like the Japanese, people in eastern countries will just backstab you or their entire company to get ahead 100% of the time.

Anyways the western value system completely flips on its head when you can no longer pull yourself up by the bootstraps because you literally cannot get a job. Maybe there'll be waves of UBI but for a few generations people will spiral wondering wtf they're supposed to do with their time.

There's not a culture of valuing hard work in intellectual and artistic fields because they're dominated by mediocre nepotism and people are used to just pirating it. AI ain't any different to them. People are too exploited and tired to want something more, to want something excellent. Being an artist here is almost suicide

Because theyre smart and they see how much of a value add it is because they do actual work

Notice how the poster count was recently removed from all threads? So you can no longer see when people are samegayging. IMO this change was made because IQfy is in the pocket of AI companies who want to flood this place with gorillions of chatbot spam posts without being noticed.

Of course it has, but like I said, they want to do it without being noticed. So they don't even have to try to conceal their tracks. They can flood a thread with just 2 or 3 chatbots and never get called out for the low poster count.

There isn't any reasonable justification for removing the poster count other than it being something suspicious like this. IQfy clearly wants to make it harder for its users to notice unusual posting patterns.

What's interesting about this tech is its an implicit admission by the megacorps that, when push comes to shove, copyright and IP rights don't matter. It's all about force and power. Now of course, China has been operating like this for decades now, but the west is finally "catching up". Deepseek coder for example is pretty much the top dog for code gen and its public versions are trained on open source data. I'm sure China has a version running with a trillion parameters trained on all the code and intelligence they've stolen over the years.

At this scale, copyright enforcement is actually a national security problem.

The intention of "AI" is human replacement in every field. Even marketers are basically openly admitting this.
          >don't bother writing your own words, just generate them with chatGPT instead!
          >don't bother learning to play an instrument, just AI generate a song instead!
          >don't bother going out into the real world and observing nature, generate fake AI videos of cute animals instead!
          >don't bother forming bonds with real human beings, talk to an AI chatbot instead!

There is no half-way measure where humans get to simply use some AI without eventually completely removing the human input. The neverending demand for infinite profits will ensure that anything that can be replaced with "AI", will be replaced with "AI". Because using robot slaves to do your shit for free is ALWAYS going to infinitely cheaper, easier, and more efficient than using humans - who are real people with needs, desires, and demands that must be catered to.

Yeah this is part of a grand plan for gradual but mass depopulation. Labor is the only value humans have for those in power, without that there's no reason for psychopaths and sociopaths to keep humans around. Especially with supposed resource concerns and climate change.

Replace all humans as best as you can, carve our nice habitable zones for your favorite 0.1%, and enjoy the Earth. That's probably the plan.

It will be gradual though. There's already major media messaging to not breed and this has been going on for awhile. They'll ease us into UBI for a few gens and we'll be riddled with more entertainment and dopamine-modulators and die out. They have all of history to know that a violent way of dealing this won't work out. They're going to go full tilt on bread and circuses (and already have).

The thing is, this can't be stopped with the current confines of the societal game. Governments are completely co-opted by lobbyists working on behalf of these megacorps. EU puts on a show here and there but I doubt they'll fight hard when push really comes to shove.

      >is just another new tool, opening up new possibilities, and not the death of fricking creativity or art (Which is in itself an incredibly pretentious and moronic take).
How is it not the death of creativity (and of talent or effort in general)?

The majority of humans are moronic. They prioritize convenience above all else. Look at how smartphones/social media have destroyed society. They somehow turned normalgays, who used to be extroverted to an obnoxious degree, into hermits who would rather sit on their ass indoors scrolling Instagram and Tiktok. All because it's more "convenient" to do that rather than to go outside and actually interact with people.

Time and time again we see that if a new technology allows people to sacrifice real human experience for convenience, normalgays will take it. Now we have "AI" which promises the ultimate convenience. The ability to coast through life never putting effort into anything. Just type a few words into an app on your electronic device of choice, and you can "create" anything. People are even using AI for shit that its morally abhorrent to use it for, like generating "love letters" for their romantic partner, or "eulogies" for funerals.

Tell me how you expect this all to turn out in 50 or so years time? You really think the next generations of humans are going to bother learning any skills when "AI" will do everything difficult for them?

It's a parser, you moron. You ask it shit and it gives you an answer, then you do whatever the frick you want with it. That's literally what anyone with internet can already do by googling shit.
Those are services/products that they would've bought anyways because the people that uses AI for those are the same people that wouldn't do them themselves you fricking idiot.
And the technologies that "sacrifice real human experience" are the same ones that facilitate life, and that also offers new ways for people to interact with one another.
In 50 years nobody will give half a shit because people will just adapt and still socialize and produce art and do shit because we are humans you mouthbreather, we need to. It doesn't matter jack with which tool things are done, because like the camera didn't suddenly destroy the world, neither will AI.
Fearmongering morons like you are seriously giving AI much more credit than it's fricking devs do, I swear to god.

          >It's a parser, you moron. You ask it shit and it gives you an answer, then you do whatever the frick you want with it.
And most people are moronic and will simply take the first thing the "AI" says as gospel, because the media has sold them the lie that "AI is more intelligent than you and is right about everything".

          >And the technologies that "sacrifice real human experience" are the same ones that facilitate life, and that also offers new ways for people to interact with one another.
Technologies haven't "facilitated life" for about a decade or so. When the internet first came about, we were told it was going to be this magnificent and beautiful thing because it would allow you to connect seamlessly with other humans beyond borders. Some people even made outlandish predictions like the internet would end all wars, because we would all become friendly with other countries' people via the world wide web. Then we had social media which, again, was sold as a similar thing, where the whole point was you would use these websites/apps to stay constantly connected with friends and family you knew IRL.

But "AI" is being sold as the exact opposite. Now tech companies don't want you to interact with other humans anymore. They want you to interact with fake robot "people". Social media platforms are being openly flooded with bots and the owners see this as a positive thing. Customer support is being replaced with chatbots and this is seen as a positive because talking to a robot is supposed to be "better" somehow. I honestly don't think we're far off the point when these ghouls will try to sell AI "girlfriends/boyfriends" to the public. Tinder and all the other dating apps are already full of bots. Eventually they will just give you an AI chatbot to "romance" and tell you to shut up and be happy with it.

moronic people take whatever others tell them as gospel, moron. It doesn't matter at fricking all who tells them that because it's all the same. And before you go "But the jooooos and the goooov!" it can and already does, it won't change shit.
The amount of remote jobs alone is a massive way technologies have facilitated human life, and outlandish predictions that ignore human nature are moronic, what a surprise.
Social media IS used to stay connected with people you know, idiot. It also happens that you can use it to meet and know more people. That's literally it. The dangers and problems it presents are the same ones already inherent to socializing, it just widens the pool.
Tech companies are advertising their newest product and trying to prop it up as the greatest? Holy shit, how surprising.

Holy shit, what a dumb Black person you are
            > And the technologies that "sacrifice real human experience" are the same ones that facilitate life
Did facebook bring people closer? No, it just ruined human connection by turning socialization into "who's life looks cooler" competition.
Did tinder create more and better relationships? No, it ruined inter-sexual relations by making people (mostly women) think they always have some better option, no matter if that it's just an illusion.
Did smartphones make people smarter by bringing the whole world's knowledge into their pockets? No, it dumbed them down, moronic the development of teenagers and obsoleted the Flynn effect for the first time in history.

Now we will have AI. AI will be for normalgays what a babywalker is for a baby. Can you guess the story behind this innocent looking item? Hint: it's banned in a few countries.

AI will be a nail in the coffin of normal and fulfilling socialization between people.

Those happen without the need for any technology, mong. Human society is by default fraught with those same stances.
And smartphones didn't dumb people down, it gave dumb frickers the ability to speak without choking on their spit, they were like that before and after.

Not really because, in today's world, that just means people spend even more time sitting indoors jacking off and watching Netflix. You know the workplace used to be one of the most common ways people met romantic partners? Not anymore, only Tinder now.

            >Social media IS used to stay connected with people you know, idiot.
It WAS, but now it's dying and full of bots and scammers. And it's going to get so much worse. The day will soon come when it's near-impossible to find another real human being on the internet.

I don't want to do either. People should, in most cases, marry people they physically grew up around. Real trust - the kind that used to fuel civilization and made life for the pre WW2 generation so pleasant - can't be built in less than a lifetime.

Why pretend like corporations are only using "AI" to automate the monotonous and boring tasks? The first use cases for generative AI which really caught on were for art (AI image generators), writing (ChatGPT), and fake voice generation.

We were sold a lie by sci-fi loving nerds who said "AI will automate the boring parts of life and let us pursue our dreams", and then AI came along and automated all the fun things and left us in an empty and vapid world without human feeling. On top of that, we now have to deal with prolific AI scams and horrible things like people using generators to produce deepfake pornography, or audio of people "saying" things they never actually said. And it's going to get so much worse once AI video generation is widespread.

          >The chart clearly shows they're already against it, not in the future but right now? They oppose it right now
And what about the people who actually have money, power and influence? Quite literally every company in the world right now is aggressively pro-AI. Even those who previously dealt in areas like making tools/services for artists, like Adobe, Deviantart, or electronic tablet manufacturers, are going all-in on forcing AI bullshit on everybody. Among those who actually pull the strings in capitalist society, a poll would probably reveal them having something like 99% positivity towards AI.

Ultimately, the public being on "my side" doesn't matter if our governments will not pass any laws or regulations to stamp out the AI industry, and they won't do that because it's "bad for business". I'm sure that almost everybody would agree that things like AI deepfakes are abhorrent and those who enable such things to be generated should receive lengthy prison sentences, but nothing is going to happen because the rich and powerful are too invested in this technology to care.

There’s a distinct lack of mutual trust in the turd world. People just assume that everyone they deal with outside their small social circle is moronic and / or completely mercenary and looking to swindle them. It’s a reasonable attitude in these parts to be honest. And you just don’t have those problems with machines, hence we tend to be super techno-optimistic.

The only real benefits that are really underway being seen by AI is advanced prototyping in computer, electrical, mechanical and electronic engineering.

With the advent of CNC machines, 3D printers, Milling, Auto CAD, and the various other software improvements on the programming field to abstract tech we are starting to see the race to the bottom to where just about any company can have its own R&D section and pump out more improvements or products in less time than we traditionally had to do with with pen and paper.

But with American liberal arts colleges forcing STEM kids to do almost 2 years worth of bullshit humanities classes and those same humanities students saying we need even more schooling in liberal arts education to be up to there ethical standards i highly doubt this is going to be anything more than a hype run like we had for data science. Not to mention there is less emphasis on keeping that education up to date thus forcing you to self educate with the very small amount of books related to your topic and the education itself is academic research oriented instead of actual applied education that is required.
