At least chose something free like Matrix.

It wouldn't matter if it was, per se. The primary method by which governments defeat SSL is by just going to all the big datacenters and imaging all the VMS to take their keys, lol.

Yeah, a high double-digit percentage of web traffic is just readable like we're living in 2005. Every reverse-proxy provider like cloudflare, akamai, and every cloudhost, almost certainly giving out ssl keys to govt.

Also consider those scripts deployed on every page for ad networks and analytics- they can deploy anything they want into those connections, you know.

So you could use key-pinning while you connect over ssl to some IRC server running in some guy's basement, and that would probably be fine. If it attracts any attention then bad actors could coerce or bribe the guy himself, or break into his house without him noticing, or hack the device or otherwise cause some kind of key disclosure, and then they would be reading it again.

Not to mention bots can log most channels you talk in by just joining and not getting kicked out.

Dumb. IRC is like torrent, all the IPs and transactions are open

      do zoomers really?
we've had SSL-only servers for a decade, and we've had OTR for decades, and we've had host shadowing for a decade at least. IRC doesn't inherently show your hostname, the server software does. Modern ones hide your IP you moron.

      >IRC is like torrent
this is only true when you use DCC file transfers. so just don't.

        >do zoomers really?
        rent-free fr fr no cap
        >we've had SSL-only servers for a decade
The server admin can still read your messages, so its not that different from zoomer-friendly apps. Except that nowadays many of those apps actually have e2ee by default, unlike IRC.
        >and we've had OTR for decades
OTR is absolute abandonware and its a workaround that you have to enable on your own. Most people wont do that.
        >IRC doesn't inherently show your hostname, the server software does. Modern ones hide your IP you moron
Just connected to libera and snagged a bunch of IPs from a few random groups.

          Anonymous

Libera is meant for FOSS, the lack of hidden hosts is deliberately to filter (You) because anonymous morons annoy them.
Use Rizon if you want to hide your hostname.
          >e2ee by default
most apps that have e2ee are just some contrived bullshit to make you think it's secure. only exception is XMPP, everywhere else the admin can read your messages anyway.

            Anonymous

Absolute cope. Sorry grandpa, not using your beloved abandonware, especially for anything remotely sensitive.
            >most apps that have e2ee are just some contrived bullshit to make you think it's secure
No, they are not. Those apps use modern cryptographic protocols that are usully audited periodically and they are being constantly improved, unlike OTR. This only shows how little you actually now about information security.

    >Why don't you use IRC? Corporations and governments can't spy on you.
I have used it for its entire existence. I gave up trying to help others. People that use government platforms like Discord, Signal, Matrix are just going to do that and it's probably for the best to keep them separated. You gotta keep em separated. Keep the normies off the tiny private circles of Jabber and small quiet comfy federated IRC networks and private anonymous SFTP servers.

If you want to keep most of the cell phonies away, disable IPv6, block SYN packets on IPv4 with any MSS other than 1460, and block SYN packets with a TTL bigger than 64. There are more techniques but those should suffice.

    Bing Bing Bong.
