If i was a MS dev i would just end it. most suicides are quite fast. you die in 1-2 mins. by the time i start writing this and it is posted someone will have died. Sadly not a MS dev.

Would be curious to see that chart with OS X in it.
It’s also telling that there’s windows 7 and XP in this chart.
Most people who use computers will probably have 10 since the requirements for 11 excluded anyone without a new computer.

Why won't you upgrade to Windows 11?

M$ specifically said 10 would be the last. All future iterations would be updates. That was in 2015.

For those of us who weren't born in the last 10 years (this guy:

Windows is like 2 years old at this point. Who hasn't upgraded?

      ) ...
      we remember.

11 is Microsoft admitting they have no idea what they're doing, where they're going...

I'll stay on 10 until Gabe finishes Linux, thanks sweaties.

Watch, someone at Microsoft will get fired, Microsoft will apologize publicly for the windows 11 push followed by assurances that it will work with a consumer oriented approach, they'll hire a different marketing team (or rework some AI shit) and they'll solve absolutely nothing while the masses wirelessly move onto windows 11 when they replace their machines. Honestly, I'm just waiting for the update that bricks windows 10 machines. Knowing Microsoft though, 95%+ machines probably already have the killswitch sleeping in their system.

Because you use an OS to run your programs, everything else is just fluff, and windows 10 runs every program that the average user wants (which is something linuxgays won't understand). No reason to update something, probably generate a ton of new problems when the old still works.

        First windows end of service?

the only reason win11 has any marketshare is because its mandatory to put it on new machines, and people were buying new shitboxes left and right with their covid stimmies. Now people are broke and nobody is buying new shit, instead they are buying old shit and trying to pinch as much money as they can, like using an older os that they can get for free/pirate easily.

it doesn't matter. people switch only if the apps or the hardware they are using drop support which isn't happening any time soon since 3rd parties support whats popular

win7 compatible games are still being released to this day which is hilarious to me. microshart trying to force win11 and then win12 is a complete cope on their party. Microsoft spins it off into its own independent company. Microsoft makes all its money off of Azure and other online services like Office 365. Legacy consumer Windows isn't a money maker for them. As long as spyware and ads can fund the bottom tier developers, designers, and managers assigned to Windows, they'll keep it around. Once it starts to cost more to maintain than it brings in from that crap, they'll cut it loose.

11 and 8 explicitly break that cycle, they never made it to the final step. Users never adopted 8 on a mass scale, and users still aren't doing so with 11. If anyone switches to the new version it will be 12, just like 7 users skipped to 10.
A big part of this is that most people using 11 just use whatever came on their surface/laptop, which isn't nearly as common after the ascendance of the smartphone.

The market has changed since even 7, it's why Microsoft hard shifted towards SaaS. Most people's PC needs are filled by phones. That's why even if you force adoption of 11 with laptops, prebuilts, tablets, it's still doing poorly.
People who actually choose their operation system, and choose Windows (play games), are still mostly using 10.

Pride is the biggest problem for most baby ducks. They wont switch to linux because its for "troons". They wont install ltsc or do the bypass because its "castrated". They are too proud for workarounds but at the same time they are too pathetic to maintain deadshitos on their own, thats why we have their hourly cope threads in which they beg us to backport software to older windows versions. How typical.

            Anonymous

Protip, Black person: the reason baby duck is a term is that it describes someone who follows an authority without question, like a duckling and its mother. Updooters are the baby ducks. Braindead 11 embracers are the baby ducks. 7gays are not. They have some brains and are resistant to “the man” telling them what to do but they’re still dumb for not switching to linux, same with LTSCucks

Nice try, but you have completely missed the point. We label 7niles and XPedos as baby ducks because they judge all modern software by how similar it is to the first software they encountered, the same way actual baby ducks imprint on the first creature they see in their life. Because saying that your device isn't compatible after actively disabling something it's just user error, before doing that your machine was perfectly compatible.

Because people don’t know how to upgrade their computers. If Microsoft can’t do it automatically because of lack of TPM, they’ll never upgrade until they buy a new computer.

Although people are probably buying new computers less often these days.

Maybe it’s the best opportunity, but still wouldn’t do much. Most people have no idea what a TPM is and will just buy a Windows 11 device.

i like 11. it has some decent apps like clip champ. the taskbar is better now and the volume control is just one button now so less confusing. some may not like the icons in the center of the bar but it's actually nice when you consider you are usually working in the center of your display anyway so it's less mouse movement. also the trash monochrome theme of 10 is now gone and replaced with a nicer color pallet and iconset.

If it has at least sandy bridge CPU, you should be able to bypass hardware requirements just fine with rufus.
      https://rufus.ie/en/
I would highly recommend upgrading to at least 8gb of ram and a decent SSD.
If its something older, you can always give linux a try.

Alternatively, you can just go to work and earn money for a new computer

win12 is going to be dogshit if they keep doubling down on all the moronic shit that MS has been doing, like copilot garbage in everything, search that only shows bing results, ads in start menu, and a dumbed down UI just to appeal to macgays
for win12 to be any good they would have to admit that all the shit they're doing with win11 has been a mistake. it's getting to the point that every sysadmin in the world will have to switch over to linux or pay $100+ per device to keep running win10.
and to call win10 a success in the first place? I'm still getting harassed to switch to edge as my default PDF viewer. frick off with that.

My CPU is unsupported. I know about the bypass but I was told in fwt that I'd face performance penalties because my CPU lacks certain features that would have to be emulated.

As long as you are not poor, it should not be a problem, since decent laptop/prebuild that has official support for 11 will cost you around 200 USD or less.

It runs faster? Windows 7 runs faster on an equivalent SSD, I've done the benchmarks. Windows 10 only appeared to run faster than 7 because the computer manufacturers FINALLY took the hint and started shipping with solid state drives. Windows 11 runs about the same as the already slow Windows 10.

They'll extend the deadline for ending W10 support several times. A few months after the final "we really mean it this time" deadline passes, they'll quietly drop the requirement for TPM2.0. That will get maybe half of the holdouts to upgrade since there are many in that group that would like to upgrade but can't.
After that, there will still be millions of W10 machines. Some Heartbleed level of vulnerability will come out and Microsoft will issue an emergency patch even after swearing over and over again that they won't do free security patches for W10. Under pressure to prevent future attacks of this level, they'll finally relent on the Microsoft account requirement for Windows 11.

I can confirm that WSL2 has become much better on Windows 11 than 10, removing lots of bugs and adding features. Not much improvement otherwise and these improvements shouldn’t have required new to upgrade the entire OS.

I bet Microsoft has a new WinNT replacement OS in the works, so whatever comes next doesn't look as bad as Windows 11.
I'm sure it'll be NT-based, but with every single classic NT feature stripped out (control panel replaced with the settings app, file explorer is just an edge window, etc).
Windows will boot to a start menu or start page again (like Windows 8 or the Neptune concept). Complete replacement of the command prompt with powershell.
Forced limited compatibility with older NT software. Zero 32-bit compatibility. Zero customization options because it needs to look "clean". All for a monthly or yearly fee.

likely this, only a subset of windows users are knowledgeable enough to work around these restrictions, normal people will older hardware just can't install win11. you need a pretty recent cpu to install win11 normally, about 2018+ from a quick search
i don't use windows anymore, but my home server is from 2013, has an i5-4670k, 32GB of ram, and an ssd, it would run win11 no sweat at all

looking further it seems they do allow installs on older cpus now, but with the caveat that they won't provide updates for them, i realise this will only affect normal users, but most users are normal users, so it's much safer to just keep using windows 10

Call me a homosexual but I like Windows 11 over Windows 10, or even in general.

I like the look and feel of the OS, it's getting more slick and unified with every update. Sure there's some legacy win32/winforms/wpf binaries floating around, but not things you'll use often anyway.

I like how fast and responsive the OS has become on decent hardware. Way better than old versions of Windows on their respective hardware (been using Windows since 3.11).

I like the default suite of apps and updates to existing ones. The settings app, file explorer, notepad, mspaint, Edge, the Microsoft Store.

I like how WSL, Windows Terminal, WinGet/Scoop/Chocolatey (in combination with Docker) makes for a pretty good developer experience where you need Linux (and/or) containers.

In addition, I like how ALL of my video games just work on Windows in general.

what exactly is wrong with updates? im extremely the opposite from you in a sense that i refuse to use anything thats not on a stable release channel and always make sure the thing i am using is updated before i start using it. Why do you dislike having day 0 security patches, bug fixes, and new features (which includes new security options) introduced on new updates? Do you for some reason think that magically bugs that were on old versions that were also at some point in the stable release channel disappear if they are not updooted? What's the logic here?

I can understand not wanting pajeet smell on your OS, but that's sadly impossible since pajeets have been running the tech industriny since early 2010s. Considering that it's the biggest and most studied/developed field in India and India has a 1.5 billion population worldwide that will only continue to grow you will soon see that the pajeet smell will never leave, you will just have to get used to it sir. The linux ecosystem is made by indians, for indians, of indians. India IS tech. And that's a GOOD thing.

It doesn't really add much from 10 and the feature it adds, aren't used by most people, for example, Windows 11 is currently the best OS you can install if you care about HDR, but to be honest, most people don't care or don't have the budget to get a good HDR display.
Performance wise it's very similar to 10 if you have a mid-high end PC, but older PCs will struggle, so it makes sense they stay on 10.
I won't say it's a failure because it's definitely an improvement but not everyone can afford to run it smoothly.

But it also has terrible 'improvements' like the right-click menu being gimped so you have to do do more clicks almost every tie you right click. • 2 months ago
        Anonymous

yeah but it doesn't really affect people that much, tech savvy users will enable the registry change to swap to the old version, and updates to the right click and taskbar make it more usable now than it was before.
But then again, most of the changes aren't that big of a deal so people just stick with 10

I wanted to try WSA so I “upgraded” to win 11. It was shit. UI elements such as volume control would take several seconds to appear. Some settings didn’t work like not sleeping when plugged in. Other settings were missing (or unfindable). The fans would turn on much more frequently. Fingerprint sensor stopped working 100% of the time. Bluetooth would sometimes crap out. Never even ended up using WSA in the end.
I technically didn’t meet the minimum system requirements, my cpu is 1 generation too old, but I have my doubts that that caused all of my issues.
With win 11, it only became even more obvious that monopolies can’t innovate. Microsoft can only emulate it.
