Will 128GB of DDR4 be enough in 2030?

RAM usage seems to grow exponentially.

Depends on what you're gonna use it for.

This, I'm just a simple shitposter who upgraded to a rig with 32 gigs just now because chrome is a hog, and how 32GB seems overkill for the next while, of course if you're a gaymer running trash software ontop of that, you'll slam as much RAM in there as you can.

the TPM requirement is severe mental ilness. Not that I even gave a frick about wangblows 11. I knew it would suck but even the requirements suck!

Depends if M$ add in-house debloating scripts to their power tools and instrument proccess explorer to highlight their own bloat.

Kek, theyre beyond help Anon... I'm switching to some Debian based Linux distro full time with a VM of 7 ontop of that for running Photoshop CS6 and Sony Vegas, other than that, an open source piece of software to run chromium will do my shitposting needs

When Windows 10 support ends, I should add, I'm not putting that 11 trash on this computer.

Well considering all the bloat and shit in programs its no wonder ram suckage is going higher. They gotta force people to "upgrade" anyway they can anymore due to "the wall". (The wall; actual real world performance of normal tasks done on a computer has hit the wall speed wise. Office is office; you don't need a 12 core cpu or 128GB ram in order to use it. Also Office 2007 works just fine and dandy even today for everything)

      > Office 2007 works just fine
Literally me, just upgraded from a shitty old AMD FX computer, sure my cinebench is higher, but I don't feel anything in day to day usage, that's probably way they had to axe old computers to officially run Windows 11, because when you consider how old of a computer can be used for basic internet and office use, the concept of buying anything new looks ridiculous.

Kek I'm running an i7-3770 w/32GB ram,1TB SSD,1TB HDD,and a GTX 1650 w/Windows 11. Said system runs smooth and fast as butter for what I do. Even though MS claims it's "obsolete".

That's a pretty killer rig right now, my i7 8700 32GB rig only has a 1050Ti in it because it's a low power workhorse type computer.

Of course for AAA gaymes or an 8K production machine it's done Anon, but for normal everyday usage, it's gonna be fine for the next while, especially if you put a non bloated operating system like Linux mint on there, and are just shitposting and browsing around the internet like most chinkpad users do.

Programs tend to use ram when it's available for caching and other housekeeping operations.
This doesn't mean you need it or the program won't run properly.

      >Programs tend to use ram when it's available for caching and other housekeeping operations.
You're thinking of operating systems. Programs generally don't know and don't care about the available memory.

I have 128GB of DDR4 and I see no reason this machine won't last me at least another decade.
I'm a Linux gay though, if you're intent on staying a Wingay MS will probably frick you in some other way at some point and force you to upgrade, like the shit they did with W11.

    8 GB is still enough.

Nowadays you need at least 2 GB just to boot the damn hogware system, then another GB just to load system telemetry and bloatware (if your unfortunate, another few more), and then once Steam, Adobe, and frickin Firefricks loads or whatever web browser that'll be at least 4 more. That's why most computers require a minimum 8 GB RAM, because the israelites and NSA as well as their respective partners in Wall Street need as much data sucked up like a hazmat vacuum pump from ServPro, LIKE IT NEVER EVEN HAPPENED!! Y'all just wait and see, Snowden was right. I swear the day Computers need 12 GB it's all fricked. Quantum computing will sky Rocket that requirement with Apple Vision Pro being at least 32 GB, oy vey.

      >Nowadays you need at least 2 GB just to boot the damn hogware system
That's not even true anymore, Windows 10 2H22 freshly booted with nothing going on uses 2.5GB of RAM, and that's before you've loaded other trash bloated software, and then when I switch to Ubuntu 22.04, it was actually quite decent at 1.2GB, doesn't help bloated webshit because no one wants to be minimal but at least Linux is kinda trying to not waste resources.

Imagine how fricking fast computers would be going if everything wasn't shit.

my gf has a shitty pavilion from 2019 or something, and 8gb ram. it came with win10, but automatically updated itself to win11 somewhere along the line.
anyway it runs completely fine, no lag in general use whatsoever, even though she usually has word, pdf reader and 10-20 tabs open in edge.
modern OS's use more ram as it becomes available, to preload applications and other similar nonsense, but even windows 11 doesnt actually NEED that much.

Even 8gb will be enough for the very basic tasks. If you plan to do an actual work on this computer, Would recommend at least 32gb.

I bought MB with 32GB 3y ago, upgraded to 64 6months ago. I plan to use this setup another 1-1,5y. So by 2026 I'll buy 128GB DDR5, with option to upgrade 3y later to 256.

So no for me 128 won't be enough. Sure it'll let me do most things I want without any issue, but I'm already playing around with AI and memory is the biggest problem..

wasted ram bs my ass, it's my money and I see ram like I see horsepower, engine cc, or mcd calories: I want more then enough

Do you know why airplanes have more fuel than they need? Cause they don't want less then they need.

considering the AI I would say anything less than 256GB is not going to be enough in 2030.

RAM is doubling at a much slower rate. compare how fast it was to switch from 1GB to 2GB, and compare how long it took to switch from 4GB to 8GB or even 8GB to 16GB
