The iPhone keyboard didn't get 'haptic' feedback for like a decade. It would only play a sound with each key press.

No wonder people only really cared about it so much later. Also acoustic feedback was made to sound natural.

        Literally called a touch screen

you forget that everybody hated it, it failed to take over traditional buttons for anything that's important, and that it spawned entire industries about re-adding those buttons? Yeah, swipes work. But nobody ACTUALLY likes them. The only reason people put up with them is because the phone replaced the desktop computer and it needed to be able to adapt to a variety of usecases. If we ever were to swap back to unitasker devices (which would be for the best imo even though it's a rare opinion) then touchscreens would retreat to a tiny market %. They're a novelty of the times we're in.

It really was. The technology that Microsoft developed with Kinect 2.0 formed the basis of what all XR tech relies on today to enable the experiences that it does.

No. The tactile feedback from actually having something in your hand is tremendously important in properly coordinating oneself

It already did, twice with Kinect and Leap Motion but they didn't stick.
I think it's just not really there yet and these only capture larger hand movements, not really very fine movements like when we gently tap a button or touchpad.

No, game controllers are designed for numerous simultaneous inputs including accurate analogue control.

Gestures may become useful for casual navigation, and navigation in environments where you can't realistically use a tactile controller (already the case e.g. gestures for car entertainment systems).

In the context of apple vision, there's a reason why they're selling them with magic trackpads. For non-media use the expectation is that it will either be paired with a mac (using its inputs) or with a trackpad and/or keyboard.

I like to compare ideas like this to the theremin. Do you see musicians replace their instruments with it? Gestures will always be a novelty with some niche applications.

    I hope not.
On top of having to be more conscious of where my hands are and what I'm doing with them, that scroll gesture would get old very fast.
You'd have the equivalent of the first page of Google problem, where no one is going to bother scrolling more than two or three times before they give up and go somewhere else.

I will not wave or move my right hand up and down in front of my TV. They can record all those acts and sell them to advertisers. Also, the disabled will be very annoyed with all the ads targeted to them.

Never, because you get 0 physical feedback from hand gestures and it feels like utter crap trying to control something that way, let alone a video game.
