Cool, cool, but what does it mean

Eleutheromania means obsession with freedom. It's a word that rarely sees use because "mania" typically implies an obsession is so great as to be a psychological disorder. However, as freedom is a basic human desire, one cannot be considered mentally ill for wanting it strongly. In fact, if you take a look at the DSM 5, and ctrl+f for "eleutheromania", you will not find it appearing once. It is simply not a real thing.

There is a particular homosexual who regularly posts on IQfy and uses this word quite frequently. He is a troll. Most tech enthusiasts are libertarians of some sort. Old hacker culture tends to be rooted in anarchist philosophy, while mainstream tech companies tend to have Libertarians at their heads. Therefore, the best way to piss off as many tech enthusiasts as possible is to use an obscure word contemptuously in order to imply that they are mentally ill for having political beliefs that are relatively mainstream for those that share their hobbies.

            >libertarian socialist

It's a real thing. Socialism is like an umbrella under which there's a shitload of differing ideologies. Social ownership is pretty much the only unifying factor but even the degrees and forms of that differ
            >Libertarian socialism is an anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalist political current that emphasises self-governance and workers' self-management. It is contrasted from other forms of socialism by its rejection of state ownership and from other forms of libertarianism by its rejection of private property. Broadly defined, it includes schools of both anarchism and Marxism, as well as other tendencies that oppose the state and capitalism.

There is no universe where socialism and libertarian ideals can co exist. Socialist ideal is collectivism. Libertarianism is individualism. Socialism collectivism is an impossible thing unless you have an authoritarian government, like all socialist countries do. Or you have a magic device that erases all individual thoughts and make everyone into drones.

They are mutually exclusive on principle level.

I don't think you really understand what socialism is. It's a very loose collection of ideologies. A lot of currents of socialism are specifically anti-authoritarian and about voluntary association. A lot of them don't want there to be a state at all.

I don't know if that moron is against ai because it is bad or because he isn't getting what he wanted from openai

He's an eleutheromaniac, so by definition, being able to save a document would be an impressive feat on his part.

He mines every Twitter post and uses it to train Grok, he's just angry Tim apple wouldn't sell ads on his site anymore.

He's not entirely wrong. Apple is the gatekeeper of the normies. On device integration with OpenAI is creates a treasure trove situation, plus OpenAI can probably push feature engineering logic directly to the phone instead of having to mine unstructured internet text. It's a checkmate move if nobody steps in to stop them.

He's against it because ai integrated at on os level is fricking stupid and benefits nothing but corporation doing it. It's like microsoft's dogshit recall feature, but somehow even worse and less transparent.

Apple making it integrared in the OS and having an API for it that's shared with all the apps makes it so that users will start expecting that AI functionality and specifically from "their" AI, so that makes it worse for companies to either bake in their own AI or use other offerings than what Apple has on the device. So a competitor (whatever the Musk's AI was called) obviously would be pissed off

      linux os.

AI in OS is a data security nightmare for any company. Especially for any company that works on R/D projects that can easily be stolen by employees trying to feed company data to those AIs

Sure but you can also deploy custom installation of the OS itself, which is more fundamental to OS deployment for enterprise users who want control over the features on the OS.

if you're breaking ToS then you can do that with osx too. but why keep using software from companies that actively hate you?

            Anonymous

Custom installation is a feature of windows os deployment, particularly for enterprise users, its not breaking ToS. I dont think you understand. Windows allows customization of installs.

The best Musk can do aside from banning Apple products is to ip range ban on the entire network. But even then VPNs can bypass that, which leads to security leaks

            Anonymous

and uhh range ban only works on their own internal networks, if someone uses their mobile internet from other providers, its irrelevant.

Maybe deploy an app which forces users to use a VPN all the time. If vpn is disabled, company security is alerted/phone disabled, etc. Maybe thats a work around.

        >not enough users
not much longer until samsung and google get on the same page. also are we sure you cant disable all apple intelligence features? additionally, i trust apple with my data more than google anyway.

          Anonymous

          >not much longer
Sure, but for relevancy's sake, limit it to Musk's companies. They're likely 90-100% iPhone users.

          >are we sure you cant disable all apple intelligence features
When uncertain of something, safest option is to not have it

          >i trust apple with my data
I don't. I don't even trust Apple with local data since they do scans of the entire files and does checksum to build a database of every file you've ever had on your phone. Thats just personal stuff. If I was a network admin and I want to protect my data, I would never allow data exfiltration and everything would be intranet, thats the gold standard for security anywhere.

But to the relevant point, from Musk's company stand point, this isn't just about apple's remote servers and iclouds, this is about chatGPT servers hosting the company secrets when employees use the products carelessly.
