        gentoo is a meme
it's completely useless for the average joe like you and me because the installation alone can take the entirety of your day(if you do it correctly), keyword here being CAN before some gentoogay comes to say shit mainly due to compiling shit, if you got a shit cpu sucks for you, because u just got memed by ebin trolled by the basedboys from IQfy

gentoo is also very prone to breakage, even after you did everything correctly and wasted your entire day learning it

non meme linux distros for people that just want to use their computers:

        Fedora
        Mint
ALCI(Arch with calamares installer so you don't waste your day like archhomosexuals)

Yeah I agree. However I'm trying linux for the first time in my life (Artix Plasma runit) and it's been okay so far. I know fricking nothing about the whole command system shit (I'm okay with cmd on windows), I also am really confused by the file structure because unlike windows with C: D: drives all of the shit is in etc bin wtv the frick.

Btw is plasma known to be laggy or sumn? my vm is on 4 cores 4 gigs of ram and the experience is quite laggy.

Don't know much about these so I can't say much

            >I also am really confused by the file structure because unlike windows with C: D: drives all of the shit is in etc bin wtv the frick.

See pic related, the only folder you should care about the most is the "home" folder aka the User(you) folder, the others are more or less the stuff you find on C:Windows, stuff that the average user shouldn't fiddle with

            >Btw is plasma known to be laggy or sumn? my vm is on 4 cores 4 gigs of ram and the experience is quite laggy.
I'm using plasma 6 natively and buggy is not something I'd call it, it works really well on my end, the experience can vary of course, i have 16gbs on my laptop and it's currently using 5,32gb
            from those 5,32
1.7 gb from firefox(far too many tabs) + ~500mb from vesktop

so almost half of the ram usage from 2 applications alone

            NTA but
            >Btw is plasma known to be laggy or sumn?
Its the other way around. Its the fastest of "nice/cool looking" DE while Gnome being the worst since its extremely resource intensive

I hate to go all reddit but stop being a gatekeeping c**t. No one cares whether you can build and deploy Arch from scratch you turbo homosexual.

There's plenty of linux distros that come with an installer. Arch having no (official) installer has a purpose. It ensures you're actually reading and following a guide. It teaches you not only the workings of the system, but also to find answers yourself in the extensive documentation.
Take that away and you will get plenty of users who won't read the text on screen but just blindly press buttons and confirm any dialog.
Other distros are designed with such users in mind. Arch isn't.

It's 2024, Game Mode in W11 settings has literally solved any meme optimization tweaking. You could run stock W11 with Game Mode enabled and you'd get 100% best performance you can get on a NT kernel. Only thing you are saving by deblooooooooting is like 500MB of SSD space

You don't even know what I am arguing for. I'm not debloating Windows with meme scripts and Game Mode is questionable at best. In theory it should be good but it's about a 50/50 split in tweaking groups. Test it yourself and see how you go.

Game Mode is always optimal, there's nothing it does that could possible be negative, it sets high performance for game, disables updates, disables notifications, disables windows store apps, and turns microsoft edge's power optimizations on if it's turned on. There's zero reason not to use it except if you are a dimwit moron.

This LTSC is a fricking joke because it's a carbon copy of 11. The only reason to get it is if you already like 11 the way it is and you're afraid of them making it worse which frankly they might

            That is why you hashcheck.
This is a leaked ISO so unless you have the official hash for it, you will never know if it's safe to use.
Being leaked from a CHINK source also makes it vulnerable.

            Anonymous

            what is hash check

            Anonymous

Imagine it like a "digital fingerprint" where only one can exist. If somebody edits or changes a file, the hash will change. The hash is a long and encrypted number.
You check the hash of the ISO against official sources to determine if you have a proper ISO.
If you don't have an official hash, the ISO has been modified in some way.
In this case as it's a "leaked" ISO, there is no official hash so there is the potential of somebody editing the ISO and distributing it.
Seeing as it's also a Chinese leak, that also raise concerns as their entire culture is stealing, deceiving etc.

      >still spyware
      >still no proper security system
      >still no proper software manager
      >still forced updates
So what exactly did LTSC fix?

        Anonymous

LTSC doesn't have certain software that includes spyware and bloats the system. It doesn't force feature updates either, as you can't install them in the first place. As for software management, you can always use scoop.

It's not that it's proprietary, which is something Microsoft isn't going to fix, obviously. It's that it's long term, but short term, because no one here is going to keep the same install for long, and it's that it doesn't get feature updates, but they crave them anyways. Suddenly a new game comes out that doesn't like older versions, some grievance with 11 gets fixed (which happened with numerous things like thumbnails in folders, labels for taskbar items, being able to open the task manager by right clicking the taskbar and such) and everyone's just crying about when the next version of LTSC is coming out.
You'll see, in newer builds of 11 there's already a different context menu where copy/rename/cut and such icons finally have labels again, and that's not on LTSC Win 11. Eventually MS will release an update for a thinner taskbar that can be moved around, and nearly every LTSC user here is gonna be miffed about it because they'd rather have that than rely on Explorer Patcher. It has been the same story for W10, it will for W11, and I expect 12 to be the same.

          Anonymous

The whole system is bloated, removing one or two programs (that shouldn't be there in the first place) doesn't suddenly unbloat it. Spyware and forced updates will obviously still be there, although probably mostly "security" updates.

        >still spyware
Wrong. Enterprise LTSC/IoT is telemetry disabled. Corporations would not use it if their internal trade secrets were leaving the company.
        >still no proper security system
Bring proprietary is the security system. It means a rogue chink can't put in an obfuscated backdoor into a system library package that hundreds of other packages depend upon and goatse millions of users, leaving it up to chance that one basement dwelling autist happens to be bored enough to save the day.
        >still no proper software manager
You go to the website and directly download the software you need, as God intended. It's a lot more secure this way.
        >still forced updates
Wrong. You can disable it, you're just too computer illiterate to figure out how.

Yeah so secure to trust some random websites which could easily be hijacked. Also you need to download, install and update every single program manually compared to clicking one button in a GUI software center on Linux.

Long term support with only security updates.
      No Pre-installed Apps / Store
Allows you disable (more) telemetry + respects your settings.

Then half the chuds here apparently disable updates which defeats the whole purpose of LTSC anyway.

Will it work on computers that aren't "ready for Windows 11"?

      yes
LTSC/IoT doesn't have the TPM requirements by default and it's debloated so it should run on hardware better
complete non-issue for Windows 11 in general these days, even Rufus has the ability to disable TPM while writing the image to a USB stick nowadays

So I can move the bar to the left? I always had it there, I am using Windows 10 LTSC IOT.
Show me a screenshot of Windows 11 with that.

centered works real well for 4K/ultrawide but otherwise I'd probably use it left aligned too

The bar is still on the bottom.
On Windows 10 I can use the full horizontal space while on Windows 11 I am forced with the bar being on the bottom.

Moving off of Win10 LTSC to a crazy Linux VFIO setup.

I have zero use for this trash now. If I really need Windows I just run it in a VM and I get bare metal performance.

Is there any difference between LTSC other than longer support compared to the educational version of windows?
