Ha, I switched to a 10 years old version of Devuan instead. Windows 10 IoT LTSC Enterprise is still viable until 2032 or something.

Devuan hasn't even existed for 10 years.

in general i like 11 a lot better than 10 so i'll try it, but i replaced 10 ltsc with nixos as my daily driver a while ago and i'm unlikely to be swayed from it.

God damnit, I just reinstalled Windows 11. Will there be a way to switch without losing everything somehow?

who cares it's not scheduled until the second half of 2024 which probably means like october/november.
there's no way your windows install will survive until then.

Does it still have the same arbitrary hardware requirements? I'm pissed that my Kaby Lake CPU apparently isn't new enough.

Oh, the Rufus thing? I know that. I'll have to see if I can run Rufus with Wine.

You don't need any tool for that, just set the appropriate registry keys with cmd before running the installer

Reinstalling LTSC to a newer version is just stupid. Isn't the whole reason to use it, so that it's frozen for x-amount of years? Just install the regular version and update every year.

you want ltsc versions to avoid binbows bloat and possible bug-breaking updates, ltsc Is the "stable lts" branch of windows, a lot of LTSC users including me update from ltsc to ltsc every x amount of years to avoid dealing with incompatible software due to an outdated OS
in a sense, yes it is "Frozen for x-amount of years" but that doesn't mean modern software will always work flawlessly on it

Well, there is not a lot of breakage on regular Windows nowadays. They mostly touch user space and call it a day

It takes like 5 minutes to debloat manually, instantly if you add scripts to your install iso

          Anon...
people who use LTSC avoid regular for a very valid reason, they don't mind updating every "x-amount of years/months" instead of an almost weekly/monthly basis, as the LTSC branch is wildly different from the regular one, be it for mere comfyness or genuine professional reasons, LTSC fills the blank of needing a windows compatible OS without potential (and this is the sole problem, the potential itself) updates breaking a software, Case example; I'm a restaurant slavewagie gay, and installed a debloated 20h2 with StopUpdate10 on the cashier's main pc just so we don't have to deal with slow-downs, a circus of updates or anything similar, and now I'm considering installing LTSC 11 as the software we use for finances seems to be showing some problems, fair we could just change the program but that would require the waiters, the cashier and the other manager to get used to it, so it's quite unviable

Thus, LTSC fills this demand, not that much change, and you can even further "Freeze" your OS like

It takes like 5 minutes to debloat manually, instantly if you add scripts to your install iso

mentioned, through the use of tools or scripts.
btw Touching user space is one of the things LTSC users be it from professional background or mere comfy neets want to avoid, it really can mess the workflow or some programs configurations altogether

Why can't they do a Windows 11 Pro LTSC?

      LTSC is Enterprise dumbass
      zero bloatware
"Pro" is still riddled with bloat shit

I am aware that LTSC is for enterprises moron. The question was why don't they have it for non-enterprise versions.

Because Windows is an advertising/spyware platform, they make money by selling your data to advertisers/data brokers and they take a share when you pay for apps in the Microsoft Store. LTSC has none of that (though the "telemetry" remains), it's for SRSBSNSS applications only where they actually make money from selling a Windows license

I'll probably just continue using the GA channel
Don't see much benefit to LTSC for a primarily gaming PC

I will when IoT LTSC drops support, but I'll use explorerpatcher to make it usable.

nothing informs people you're a tech illiterate non-power user like using LTSC
    >there's less on my start menu when i first install the OS, that means it's faster
wrong. it's not designed for modern hardware, it's missing scheduler updates, it doesn't have background task sleeping, it's missing features real power users use.
using a point of sale OS as your main desktop OS is moronic
inb4 the only response is pakiposting.
