Worst programming language

Instead of finding out the best programming language, I'll ask you what is the worst programming language? What language you've had the displeasure of dealing with, or what language you won't touch at all?

Java and JS. There literally isn't enough money in the world to pay me enough to ever work with that shit again. If you're a java or js Black person, have a nice day. Don't even bother trying to cope or spread your mental illness through the thread, do the world a favour and an hero.

Java's fine. It might be a bit dated but it still works well enough.
JS is much worse on most aspects.
Objective-C takes the cake I think. The language itself isn't terrible but it's just unnecessary and you're forced to use it for legacy software on Apple devices. It's very annoying.

It really isn't. Not a good language, by any means, but it's much simpler than Java. A lot of issues parroted by the unemployed here are just memes and don't occur in reality if you know what you are doing.

Probably the way the artikles are randomly gendered and then go trans depending on verb conjugation on top of that. The actual base nouns and verbs are so similar to english learning the words is easy. That's all I struggled with coming from english with zero article difficulty and spanish with obvious genders based on ending with a or o.

Objectively speaking and all memes put aside, the most unpleasant language to work with in current year which still has some use and isn't some esoteric lang is probably COBOL.
Java isn't fun to work with at all, but it's not abhorrent on the level IQfy likes to pretend it is.
Personally, I also strongly dislike Javascript because it's just a fricking mess.

Assuming we're not counting memelangs, JavaScript easily. The entire web development industry is mostly built around just coping with JS's numerous gaping flaws.

I have to give it to python
I use it everyday for work and its my choice for leetcode in interviews but i have a few pet peeves, indentation instead of brackets is just ass, now if i copy code to vim sometimes the indentation is fricked up and becomes huge for some reason, its another thing i need to take care of instead of using a formatter, another thing that can break and change logic in disastrous ways.
Then we have the oop madness, python developers think oop is the only acceptable paradigm and complicate code with inheritance for absolutely no reason whatsoever but to look smart which leads me to the next point
One liners and list comprehension, i would never sacrifice readability for a smaller amount of text, we have plenty of storage for chars and i find the syntax unintuitive, even now that im already used to it its just ugly and feels backwards (i mean it literally is, why would it make sense to read the inside of the loop before the definition?)
You could say im just filtered but honestly i dont feel like i am, i use all those features i listed everyday i just find them not good

Pure Javascript isn't particularly bad language, but I don't have any reasons to use it over something else outside of Web Dev. The reason I dislike using it is because Web Dev is cancer primarily because of how shoddy JS is.

    Legacy .NET applications.

      Anonymous

There's no such thing as the "muh .net applications" This is well documented meme for being Microsoft propaganda. Case in point, look at all the claims of backends being written in C# despite never having any real HTTP request routers and infrastructure anybody (much less low iq webshitters and other subcontractors) would want to use. Yes, C# was and still is used massively in shit like Intel NUCs and thinclients you see plastered in shopping centers and fastfood drive throughs. Yes, that market is massive. However, lets quit the fricking Microsoft PR department gaslighting. There isn't a secret underground community of webshitters using .net for crud shit, nor is there a massive demographic of WPF autists. Objectively speaking, we can simply use the uncle cooooder and highschool markup document shitter ecosystem as a frame of reference, how many webshitters are there? How do you expect us to believe your obviously more niche tech stack, that just about works on one paid for enterprise platform, has this huge of a marketshare? its all fricking bullshit lies.

          >Case in point, look at all the claims of backends being written in C# despite never having any real HTTP request routers and infrastructure anybody (much less low iq webshitters and other subcontractors) would want to use.
Historically there has never been any real infrastructure for writing HTTP clients and servers. You have one example of microcuck db and a microcuck web framework, AND THATS IT. Not using aspx? Well then you're just not using .net anywhere. The only people using this shit are a niche group of enterprise clients that once floated around a contract only microshaft could fulfil in one swoop - database, hosting, webshit? check (mssql), check (windows azure), and check (aspx). This shit stinks of barely meeting the minimum requirements of a contract, not an organic ecosystem worthy of note. At this point you may as well larp about supporting some IBM 3270 software.

you're full of shit because there is no "working in banking" and a "we". There are only a handful of organizations, like 2-3 per massive western country, that resells 2-4 decade old boilerplate to every bank in the country. No anon here is actively maintaining that. Maybe we can find some uncle jerries working on a banks website, and maybe they have to interact with a SOAP API that they had no business in writing. Congrats, you know of the language some third party vendor might've used, I guess?

We have a bunch of custom utilities written over a decade ago by people that didn't have any programming knowledge outside of .NET that we're rewriting in Python. For example, we're rewriting an application that validates the accuracy of ETL jobs. I 100% agree that .NET developers aren't real. My only interactions with it are rewriting applications with some other technology stack.

I fricking hate R and its "everything is, works with, and/or produces lists" paradigm. To reach that "ideal", every operator in the language is overloaded to hell, and that combined with the dynamic typing means any fricking bug is impossible to track down due it inevitably doing nothing but mangling the output.

i feel nothing but pity for the poor fricks doing statistical analysis that are forced to use it. The syntax is fricking atrocious too.

Bash, is the worst of all worlds. Slow, doesn't add enough value to use it over old and less capable but compatible POSIX shell or enough to just use a real programming language, ugly af codebase, canibalizes other free software projects that could've been better replacements.

probably C64 basic, you'd just use C instead if you actually wanted to do anything
the c64 should have had a minimal interface for loading tapes and discs since that's what 90% of users did with the entire basic language

Python. I'm currently trying to write the types out for an excessively Python-y piece of code and it's just awful, all twisted in on itself and very very nasty when you peek beneath the surface. It's not the first time I've done this either; I know what I'm doing with protocols and unions and typeguards and so on, but it's still a truly terrible experience. That's Python all over: horrible, but LARPs enough as nice for noobs to be drawn in, and then they pound way too much effort down the bottomless rathole before getting the result dumped on my lap.
    It's a living I guess.
