So by your admission macos is easy to hack and you're one source leak away from getting digitally assraped. I'll stick to linux where vulnerabilities are patched on sight instead of after causing billions in damages.

Would you use it if it was open source?

No, it might be UNIX like, but I've had the displeasure of using a mac (more like fixing) and I am never using it, I'd rather use windows.

      I'm sure that's bait.

Only if I could rip out the garbage UI and just run Xorg. I tried that on my Pinephone and it was really great. Unfortunately the hardware was garbage that almost literally crumbled away in my hands.

I'm with (You). The hardware is appealing, the software is garbaggio

Because they are good at finding out what the lowest common denominator (average liberal moron) wants.

gayOS is a copy of Unix and Windows keeps adding features that Linux already had years ago

The amount of exploits and literal spyware (not the IQfy schizo kind, actual spyware used by nation states) on this piece of shit os is already too many. I can't imagine what would happen if it were to retain it's popularity but go open source.

So... no real changes, but I would have to compile it myself and supply my own GUI and do a rain dance to pray for working drivers? No, linux is irrelevant on PCs for a reason.

Just because u dont use it, doesnt mean that is irrelevant. You use whatever allows you to have a better workflow. Also the reason why most GPUs have problems on linux OS is bc of the relations between both companies. (mostly nvidia).

      Yes, no, no, not really.
Linux isn't relevant on PC because it isn't microsoft or apple. Had IBM switched to linux *maybe* it would be a more common desktop choice, now however windows comes preinstalled on everything so might as well keep using it, that's changing of course with Chromebooks and steamdecks so it seems linux as a kernel is on the rise for desktop applications

Chromebook is Gentoo/Chromium, SteamOS is Arch. All of this is open source.

It's not, it's holo, which is based on Arch. Arch is open but holo is closed.

No, SteamOS contains closed source components by Valve and runs only on the Deck. ChromeOS is FOSS in the same way as Chrome is, as in it has a FOSS parent project in ChromiumOS but itself, it's still closed source.

Yes, if I could compile it myself or use a deapplefied fork without spyware.

at least then the following issues could be fixed
    >apps need to be blessed by apple
    >itunes is needed for usb file transfer, no mtp or usb memory mode
    >only apple apps have access to specific apis

If it was open source and a better fork existed, then yes I may use that fork.

Since when did "open source" mean the same as "cheap"?

          Anonymous

It doesn't but ,If the customer has the right to use, modify and distribute the provided source commercially, it will eventually become free. Now apple may not make that okay, but my assumption from the OP post is that it becomes FOSS, not just any old open source.

  13. 1 month ago

No because it would be shit. The whole point of closed source is that people are paid good money to build stuff. If you want to benefit from that, you need to pay too.
