That's some watery ass ink my homie, you just like it that way or are you flushing your pen and not getting all the water out before putting new ink in?

        Anonymous

Yeah, that was just me testing out how it was writing after flushing it. Turned out the water had not completely evaporated yet. It writes fine now.

Is that one on the right one of those expensive Montblancs?

            Anonymous

I guess? It's a Montblanc Le Grand/146 from 1994. But Montblanc does make some limited editions that easily go up to 5-6k

it's $500-1000 and one of the most expensive stock/noncustom or non-LE fountain pens

Did you know you can buy the same kind of paper Aztecs used for their codices? You can do that. They still make it. It's called amate.

And if Aztecs are too mainstream for your hipster ass there's the paper Mayas used, huun. There's a company making an eco friendly version of that.

They are the same thing, and pretty much the same as mulberry paper. Amate and huun are made from the inner bark of the ficus tree, mulberry from the inner bark of the mulberry tree. All three are pretty much identical and difficult to tell apart assuming similar paper making techniques were used. Mulberry can be had in better quality for less money and in a wide variety of sizes and weights, amate and huun generally are poor quality with the industry mostly catering to the the craft paper market where poor finish and technique can be rebranded as artisan for a nice mark up.

But I bet we could use Amate to make tamales.
I'm not sure about mulberry or huun?

Rice paper is mulberry paper and widely used for cooking. They would all probably work fine but be on the expensive side, considerably more expensive than a roll of parchment paper or wax paper from the grocery store.

I use uniball signo 207 for day to day stuff and a rotring 600 with parker gel recharges for more formal occasions. I have yet to find a better pen than the uniball signo for writing feel.

I needed quick drying ink and like to live dangerously. The other choices are too gummy for a fine nib.

prefer the fermo, still neat, pilot has great nibs

One handed operation was my only criterion and I'll deal with the tiny, tiny nib and reservoir. At least you know how microscopic this shit is compared to the rest. Sometimes I want a Custom with a Falcon nib but that EF suits my writing like nothing else.

I can open the fermo one handed, it is not as fast as the click action, but I prefer the sleeker body. I read good things about the Custom, same I won't be buying anything bigger than Japanese EF.
Wish platinum had some premium pens with UEF

is there anything that's maybe a step above? I recently tried out a kaweco student in person and it felt pretty nice. I think my problem is I like lighter pens but those tend to be lower quality

i have safari EF, dont like it too scrarchy and too light
i need a plastic pen with decent ink capacity that's not tiny like prera
    i'd get a 580 but it's fricking $85 in my country
ideally ~$50 and around japanese size F or euro EF or thinner, available in europe

      Anonymous

If the 580 is too expensive just get the Eco. 580 is pretty much the Eco with a metal band around the base of the cap to prevent damage from over tightening and a replaceable nib. Just don't overtighten the cap and it will last decades with a little care. I have an Eco with red ink for editing, good pen.

Oh, there is also the Classic which is $50 here and gives you everything over the Eco that the 580 does.

the classic costs exactly as much as 580 at $50 and around $80 here

I would never even consider purchasing a TWSBI. They are extremely fragile in of itself and then on top of that they give you tools in the box and encourage you to open up the pen and feed causing it to stress fracture. Look at this shit.

          Anonymous

People who overtighten things is not TWSBI's fault. Eco is their only pen that is remotely fragile, the rest have metal bands added on as moron proofing but even the Eco is plenty strong. My Eco has been going strong for about 5 years without issue.

Unfortunately, they no longer make this, so I either don't get to replace the eraser or I have to buy and cut my own. So, instead I just use a standalone
