wtf is the point in the school system?

>spend maybe 4 years learning basic life skills like reading and writing
>spend 10 more learning useless bullshit like calculus, history, science, and literature
>maybe even spend another 3+ learning more bullshit
>don't actually learn anything useful after primary
>don't learn how to get a job
>don't learn how to do taxes or run a business
>don't learn about responsible finances and investments
>don't learn how to navigate the legal system
>don't learn how to look after a vehicle
>just learn a load of bullshit
gee i'm so glad i know about the u2 crisis that's really helped me a lot in life! i'm totally not completely lost and drowning in society because i know that electrons flow from an anode to a cathode and i can prove that the product of odd numbers is always odd! woohoo!

school was deliberately developed to make people lose who they are as a person. it was initially meant to train children to work at factories. but when that stopped being relevant, nobody wanted to change it because it lets parents avoid being parents because they hate being responsible for the thing they willingly created. so it just stayed like that for years. there is no real reason. theres no "big baddie", its just the "grown-ups" and "elderly" you have been taught to blindly follow as a child, turning out to be much more incompetent and immature than you ever have been. and barely anybody noticed that because, again parents will belittle their children into believing there is truly one big answer that theyre just too stupid to understand. but there never was an answer. there never will be an answer. we rummage through this corpse of a society our whole lives to find its brain, but there is none. it is merely a blob of cells, contributing to a life form they dont even recognize is dead.

History and civics are important courses, especially in democracies where these morons gets to vote
Here in New Zealand most schools don't really teach NZ history and it shows with how god damn stupid the average kiwi is on important matters like native land rights

voting is moronic and having a job matters a lot more moreover the overwhelming majority of people forget it all if they ever even learned it
making money, being healthy, being secure, and leading a functional life is all infinitely more important than which side of the toilet paper you wipe your ass on every four years

This is such a dumbass take, democracy is moronic but I'm the one that still has to live in a country run by an elected government anyway. So of course I'd prefer people to be educated in civics so they don't vote in complete morons who fricks with my livelihood.

Here we have tons of history but 99% of kids don't care, learn for one exam and forget everything right after. People going to vote are receding because everybody knows the system is rigged/moronic and all parties that are relevant screw over their voters anyways.
It would be healthier to have a society that learns how to learn topics they like in their own free time, starts gaining work exp at a young age and have skills that are actually benefitial.
One of the fastest growing business types here is "teaching kids how to get jobs" garbage. After 9 obligatory years of moronic education.
Let's not even get started on the declining quality of teachers.

No, you don't. You're born into a society and often it's hard to leave. Even if you build your own work you still need to sell, market, and distribute it which is social. You're not an island. If you're American or Canadian then sure you can go live in the forest but not only is that not even possible in places like the Netherlands because it's simply so full you still need to buy the land or it's just a matter of time before you're caught up with.

No, but you create your own starting line and finish line. You decide where you start and where you want to end up. You decide what your goals are, maybe from a constrained list of realistic options but literally school cannot decide for you what you are motivated to do.

People figure things out that they are interested in, yeah. No amount of "guide child" or "teach life skills" ever mattered to kids who didn't care about or weren't ready for those things yet, I literally would just forget about an entire school day when I got home. You learn most practical things from your peers anyway. Like this entire learned helplessness meme where you blame schools for not making you a rich billionaire comes from a very specific group of people who taught you that mentality. Why not blame them?

I would say schools have an obligation to outright provide a child with at least an entry level job, when all is said and done.
        >okay, you got a C in English, and displayed a basic ability to use a compute, so this company will take you on-board to do data entry work for as long as it takes for you to get your shit together, or you can just turn it down and do whatever, but that might be harder on you
Literally, why can't it be like that?

          Anonymous

Most schools do help you find and apply for jobs. They can't guarantee you one because they don't and shouldn't control every company out there. In the cases where you don't use a schools resources or they don't have them, you are at a disadvantage but you don't necessarily become a failure from it. The process of becoming a failure is extremely long with many warning signs and divergence between yourself and the people around you.

After ten years of bullying and torture, it's the least they owe me. They owe me monetary compensation, frankly.

I would say women get off lightly, because they're better equipped for that kind of highly socialised hell.
As a young boy, basically you're in prison. Tougher people will single you out and abuse you, whether that's physically or otherwise. You may find yourself literally joining a gang to survive. And sometimes the teachers (guards) just decide they don't like you, and that they're going to make your life hell. That's what school is.

The education system isn't optimized for learning stuff, because we know you'll forget 80~90% of everything after your graduation and nobody cares. It's also not optimized for setting up life success as it doesn't teach us about the real workings of current society nor forces you to be in shape. A cynic can say it's an indoctrination machine that rewards you with a certificate of employability after you've jumped through their hoops long enough, but schools are perfectly willing to shred the worth of their diplomas into the ground by giving it to minorities and women.

I think it's a system that moves along without an definite purpose. Just a thing that exists to be taken advantage of by interests groups and pedophiles.

There are enough people's careers and lives invested in it, that we can't just deconstruct it, basically, at least not over night. The people who trained years to be teachers, and the parents who need to put their kids somewhere all day are collectively conspiring to keep it going.
It's not in any way for the good of the children. They're basically beasts of burden. Slaves, even. I don't think I'm even being overly dramatic by saying that. It's the truth.

Rudolf Steiner basically worked out how to do it right, but people don't want to hear about that because it seems to much like hippy dippy nonsense, and also requires more individual care from teachers toward students. You can't just cram 30 kids into a room, and scream at them to write lines and shut up.
