already using it on my laptop. not using it on my desktop cuz nvidia drivers suck for linux. My Next GPU will probably be AMD and then I'll probably daily run Linux on my desktop as well.

things that didn't happen since 1998 for 100, Alex

nta but I find if I have more than maybe 50 media files in the same folder in Windows, explorer often freaks out and does this weird thing where it like needs to re-load the folder and takes at-least a minute before it's usable again. 10 has done it to me for like a decade, even on different computers, and the one desktop (my current) with win 11 also does it (tho seemingly less frequently but still)

Nvidia is fine, and Wayland is still not mandatory (and never will be)

          >Nvidia is fine
how you get it to be fine? I'd probly stick with nvidia for now and put linux on my desktop rn if there's a way to make nvidia not suck and don't need to do programmer/hacker lookin shit for 8+ hours, only for it to fail loading the DE for no fricking reason 2 days later.

Nvidia works except no GPU accelerated video decoding with browsers. No gsync with multi monitors. And 30% decrease in performance most the time.

Wayland is shit and don't care.

          >30% decrease in performance
Is that at all times because of the driver or is that some emulation type shit like proton?

Wish I could, but the available image editing programs are not quite on par.

I've come far enough in Linux that I am comfortable to completely replace windows. adobe is the only reason I'd even consider dual booting.

            >cuz nvidia drivers suck for linux
really depends on what distro you use and how cryptic their driver install process is, imo. I use Arch on 2 nvidia machines and it's just as easy as selecting "nvidia nonfree" on archinstall to make everything work perfectly out of the box
I did install nvidia-dkms instead because I'm using zen kernel instead of the stock one, but it still works perfectly fine
3070Ti on desktop, Intel UHD630 + 2060 on laptop (yes, Optimus also works, though more of a hassle to setup)

also forgot to add, but that anon who says there's no hardware decoding on browsers is full of shit also. I have full hardware decoding on Firefox, you need to manually enable a few things in about:config and install the VAAPI driver, but it works

WHY WOULD YOU EVER NEED TO NOT RUN BLEEDING EDGE SOFTWARE?

        Anonymous

With Linux you get exactly the version that the package manager has. That's it.
On many distros the version is old.
        On others its bleeding edge.

If you want to install a specific version you're completely at the mercy of the program's developer.
Did they spent 1000hours setting up Git(Hub|Lab) CI/CD pipelines? If not, you probably aren't getting a version that runs on all distros.
Did they go out of their way to avoid all modern syscalls and target the oldest glibc that they could get their hands on? If not, it wont work on anything older than the OS on their dev box.

        Linux is pain.
        Developing for Linux is pain.
Anyone who says otherwise has never distributed their programs to other users across more than one target distro.

      >windows users being utterly confused and angry at the very idea of being able to chose your audio system, display server, widget toolkit, DE, init system and package manager
No wonder Microsoft keeps forcing them to use Edge, they wouldn't even be able to browse the internet otherwise.

    >You have about 10 seconds to explain to the rest of us why you are still not using Linux on your PC and laptop.
I have all the time I want and I've been using Linux since it existed. I migrated many businesses off Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, SCO, VMS, Dynix PTX, Windows Server to Linux before it was cool.

who tf would wanna waste their time using this when it all just works fine on windows. Plus the horrible community never helps. they just tell you to RTFM or tell you to never use the app in the first place.

It's simple. If you don't want because you play games that don't have compatibilities, search 2 ssds with 1T more and buy it, and do a multiboot.

Laptop is a surface with microsofts arm cpu, Its a massive pain in the ass to get it working on there, could probably run PiOS but I'd have to figure out how the touchscreen and keyboard would factor into that

Because I play games from time to time and I don't have time to deal with emulators. Also my work computer is already preinstalled with Windows and I don't think they'd allow me to run Linux there because of tracking software

I use Windows because the stability and long-term support for the software I use that it does offer is not offered and never has been by open source software.
