It's called markup and it's based. That way you can hard wrap text in your text editor without fricking up the formatting.

Why not just turn on word wrap?

Add two spaces at the end of the line, then only press enter once.

Even the old Windows Notepad has word wrap. There is no need to disregard singular linebreaks. And a website's text input is not a text editor. There is no need to wrap text in it. But at least it helps filtering out morons due to their reddit spacing.

except "reddit spacing" predates reddit and is called formatting your posts properly.
because if you have a big post you want to separate paragraphs with something more than a line break.

          Anonymous

The mark of reddit spacing isn't formatting your posts and seplrating long bodies of text or separate thoughts by two linebreaks.

It is exclusively using them all the time. And never singular linebreaks, even though they also have their own purpose.

This and as you subtly suggested by its inclusion, the double line break after the post number. Only redditors do that.

Except that format is only used when you write actual paragraphs, not the 2 sentences you morons write and start spacing as if you're trying to hit page counts.
Just stop being a redditor, it's as simple as that.

I don't care about your babby software, all text files should be hardwrapped to improve their readability in ttys and such. There's a reason developers send messages to mailing lists with hardwrapped lines. You'd get a 1500-character/line chunk of text in your 4k screen otherwise.

ttys can also word wrap. actually, it makes much more sense for the program displaying text to do the wrapping. because text isn't displayed everywhere the same way. what if your window is a different length. what if you don't use a monospace font. hard wrapping text yourself messes those setups up.

I would assume so. According to Wikipedia, it was invented by one of Reddit's founders and released about a year before Reddit.
            invented paragraph breaks
There is a difference between breaking your post up into paragraphs and adding a whole line break in between every single sentence. The latter is what Reddit spacers always do.

            >What do you mean by this?
Markdown is disabled on Reddit. You've to opt-in for it. Their default editor is "what you see you post" and it creates a linebreak with one enter click.

That is why your post looks like this
You think pressing enter once will create a linebreak
Like it does on your favorite website
            But it doesn't

A paragraph should have about 5 sentences on average. They can be more or less depending on the length of the individual sentences.
            >Markdown is disabled on Reddit. You've to opt-in for it. Their default editor is "what you see you post" and it creates a linebreak with one enter click.

Reddit existed in 2005 but for the first couple years it was a small enclave of Digg refugees and people who were really mad about e.g. Digg censoring the HD-DVD key. At that time its post volume was almost certainly lower than IQfy's; it was a virtually unknown community that kept to itself, and the idea that someone here would have "come from" there would have provoked confusion

THAT'S YOUR COMPLAINT? How about the fact that you have to manually uncollapse every thread to read conversations with users the mods collapsed. Seriously, you have to click upwards of 40 "[+]"'s just to see everything sometimes.

And that isn't to mention the fact that you can't read conversations that go on for more than like 5 lines of dialogue before visiting an entirely different webpage by clicking "view more of this thread". You can't reply to more than one user at a time either.

Reddit is NOT a website for discussing things. IQfy solves ALL of these problems and is the perfect website design. On IQfy all the archives are run by guerrilla archivist users not affiliated with the site, whereas reddit doesn't even have archives anymore since the API fiasco. It's an unusable website.

That's not true. There was unddit and CAMAS. CAMAS was wonderful, you could do searches like in a IQfy archive. That made it good for research because you could actually find stuff posted like 10+ years ago in specific subs, or any sub, or by really longtime users. I also used to use the site to read the writing 5 or 6 users that I like, like blogs, but camas relied on the API, so you can't view the writing of any user past 10 pages now, and that killed the last redeeming quality of the site for me. There is nothing to salvage.

        This.

Why does no one get called out for blockposting or saying NTA or normie?

Blockposting became normalized on IQfy because of a phoneposter called Tioga060 who invented the Reddit spacing hoax in 2014 so he could scroll less on a small screen. He noted how incredibly moronic that post-2010 newbies are, how over 90% of IQfy's userbase consists of only newbies, most newbies are only here for 1 day or within 3 years, and how many of them are only here because they got banned on Reddit for failing at euphemism/dogshistling because they screech about Reddit in every thread, so he got them to blockpost by scaring them into it by spamming threads between 2014-2016 that Reddit invented paragraphs.

90% of blockposters are paranoid newbies who think Reddit spacing is real because blockposting became normalized three years after the hoax was invented.
5% of them are newbies who think IQfy uses the same post editor as Reddit which creates a paragraph when you press enter once.
The remaining 5% are innocent posters who either have no education or try to see as much of their text as possible on a small screen.

It's especially funny that post-2010 IQfy promotes blockposting while wanting a race war against phoneposters.

I'd like to note that mods and feds support the Reddit spacing hoax and used a bot since 2016 for a few years to spam it in popular threads that used a paragraph. They make more money from blockposts because an empty line takes up usually 2 bytes and bandwidth and electricity are expensive. They also print out every post on paper and save every post digitally. Imagine the costs for maintenance, paper, ink, storage equipment, etc.

Two spaces at the end of a line is a line break
Two newlines is a new paragraph, giving your lines a little more breathing room without inserting a full blank line.
    It's literally just markdown.
And the current default editor inserts a new paragraph when you press enter once, you have to explicitly turn on markdown editing now. It's been like this since the new reddit interface iirc, which was a hell of a time ago.
People complaining about reddit spacing today are just trying too hard to fit in.

Ok, I just searched the word "blockposting" in the archives and it seems that it has been used a grand total of 17 times. The posts date back as far as 2017. With only a couple of exceptions, most of the posts are using the term in the same way that this thread's autist is using it. It seems he has been trying to force the "blockposting" meme for a while, thoughbeit very infrequently.

The second post with the word "blockposting" is a troony posting his fake breasts and ass on /b/. We are dealing with a real lunatic here.

          >/pol/tard spergs out about trannies out of no where
Every time. Now we wait for the inevitable when you've turned into a troony like your peers do en masse.

Exactly. Astolfo is male, so dressing up as him isn't crossdressing.

I prefer "Reddit typing" instead of blockposting because over 90% of blockposters think Reddit spacing is real

    >muh reddit bad because of word editor
no, reddit is bad because their frontend is pure shit and it's only the grace of god their old frontend is mildly (and still shitty) usable and still available.

Yeah, Reddit has gone to shit, even the NSFW subs. For example look at /r/FemBoys, at this point it's like 80% trannies. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate trannies, but there are already separate trans porn subreddits for them. When I go to a subreddit called femBOYS, I expect feminine guys, not trans women. In fact I find it ridiculous that this is allowed under Reddit rules, as the implication that trans women are simply men in skirts feels really transphobic.

because he will get downvoted. reddit has downvotes. downvotes enforce hiveminds and echo chambers of which reddit is chock full of. IQfy doesn't have downvotes so these things rarely if ever exist.

Daily reminder that anyone who uses the term "reddit spacing" is a cia agent trying to prevent any actual discussion from taking place here.
