It's really outlined in the article
          >It's well known that printers are routinely sold at a loss, with the real revenues made from selling replacement ink cartridges.
          >Because every time a customer buys a printer, it's an investment for us. We're investing in that customer, and if this customer doesn’t print enough or doesn’t use our supplies, it’s a bad investment," Lores says, turning "selling at a loss" into a neat "investment" euphemism.
          >Needless to say, forcing printer users over to a subscription model would likely require that the machines rejected third party cartridges to make any sense.
          >So, it's easy to see how HP's Dynamic Security feature, which rejects non-HP cartridges when implemented, is laying the ground work for a subscription model.

Who even still uses printers in 2024? If someone needs a documents I just mail it to them, if they don't accept that I write them a handwritten letter in the most unreadable script possible. What they gonna do? Force me to buy a printer? Frick boomers and their deprecated technology.

Every government I can think of requires you to print things out sometimes. Copies of identity documents, proof of whatever the frick, forms, that sort of thing. It's probably worse for businesses.
Shipping and return labels generally have to be printed out. There's barcodes and stuff. If you try and handwrite one it'll get RTSd.

If they need a copy of something I just give them the original and tell them to copy it

Nobody force you to buy a printer with your mom's money kid. You'll learn someday that printing/scanning or even faxing is still king worldwide. What a mess this #short generation is, and it's a millenial telling you this.

Rights are inherent, the government does not provide them. Should the government interfere with those rights, it can expect to be overthrown. Yes, the cashless society control grid is system attempting to prevent its overthrow.

Simply buy a laser printer scanner combo and refillable drum. I keep a laptop from the same year as my printer simply to print documents and never it either (Dell + Brother) connect to the internet except for the initial setup, that way I can avoid any retroactive policy changes off both that will force me to buy genuine drums or impose arbitrary limits on how many pages can be printed.

I don't understand why printers are such a scam. Surely a company could make one for far less. Just a refillable reservoir of just black for printing documents. It's not like the printing needs to be particularly fast.

Because you homosexuals keep buying the cheapest shit possible and then complain.

A decent printer is $300 minimum. A good printer is $500 minimum. A quality printer is $800 minimum. For laser, it's more expensive. For intesive/business use, I'd say $2000 minimum.

The only time when I print something is when I need to sign a document. I don't know why can't I just open the pdf in Xournal, sign it and send back via email. I could do this for over 10 years (I have tablet convertible thinkpad) and only 1 employer agreed to that (startup of course). Most companies want you to print the documents, sign them and send it via post. Huge companies are the worst, because they have some useless "procedures" and you can't do anything around it. You need to do it the most moronic way. Their way. Also frick government. They somehow have digital infrastructure, websites but only for checking information. If you need to change something you need to print some document, fill it up on paper, sign it and send it.
