Actually, this was the most common type of meal in the USSR. Fried potatoes with with sausage (sometimes added with eggs and cucumber).

Meat wasn't a common household food item in Sovdepia until the late 1970s.

meat was rare, but sausage was common. keep in mind it was very processed sausage, especially after 1970s, with alot of additives like ground bonemeal and onions

Huh, makes sense. I always knew Sovdepia was proto-globohomo.

I will never understand the russian fascination with cucumbers. You would think a historically poor country would shy away from such a useless and inefficient plant.

        Quick rundown?
What are some useful efficient plants?

potatoes make sense. sweet potatoes are slightly better, but in terms of calories produced per hectare, potatoes generally are unbeatable. you might have to do a slight correction for their potential for blight, but assuming all goes well there is no more efficient food.

cucumbers on the other hand are labor intensive and basically useless for nutrition and calories. you will burn orders of magnitude more calories cultivating them then you will ever get back. people used to laugh at them back in the day. there was some funny historical name for how useless they are, i forget it though.
potatoes make sense for starving sovoids. cucumbers do not.
          >but the taste
what taste? they're chewy/crunchy ice at room temp.

        they love beets over there

pickles yes. but they love putting cucumber with caviar, cucumber with butter on bread, cucumber salad etc. it seems like a decadent luxury for commies to grow water in a green skin.

            >it seems like a decadent luxury for commies to grow water in a green skin
The decadent luxury of having a small personal garden or buying a cheap cucumber from the farmers market

Just slice it up and put salt on each slice. Give the salt some time to settle in. Then it goes really good with sandwiches, tomatoes, eggs, sausages etc.
