YouTube WILL become a login-walled platform

Much like Twitter and Instagram.

It might seem, I won't say unthinkable, because we are way past the point of this possibility being unthinkable, but it might seem unlikely for many that they would do that. However, honestly, if you are paying attention, the signs are all there. Many videos are already restricted and require you to log in, all in the name of "safety". They have been making it harder for alternative front-ends to work, such as Invidious. They want control over how people interact with their platform, and changes requiring a login solve a lot of these issues for them, including shutting down sites that allow people to download YouTube videos. Requiring a login to watch the site gives YouTube a greater control over how people access their platform. Also, this would most likely be followed by them using some special protection, like Widevine, to prevent/making way harder to people from downloading videos from YT.

And, sadly, it's not only YouTube going down this path. Some might say, "Well, this will be the downfall of YouTube, and the Chinese will come with some alternative platform". But just look at TikTok; it's almost as bad as Instagram when it comes to nagging you to make an account. So, I pretty much see this becoming the trend in the coming years.

We are seeing the end of the internet as we came to know in the last 20 years.

          >They can and will just turn the internet into cable television 2.0, shit it pretty much is already. What has anyone done?
How the future will look like
Internet 2.0 or App Net will be established.
Everything will be a App on the App Net.

If it is not in the store of your App Net provider (google or apple) you can not get it.

To have access to the App Net you need a government ID verification or they do some GOV + Big corporation bullshit like
          >Oh you do not need to post your gov ID
          >Simply get this access verification token from your bank that is super private and is not exposing your real Gov ID (SSN) to the internet.

The trash on the App Net will be like a more extreme Tik Tok + MrBeast youtube clickbait trash.

Society will fracture most morons like 60% of the population will consume their MrBeast trash on the App Net while 40% (I'm a optimist) will publicly laugh how moronic the trash on the App Net is and
          >Why should I even watch this?

These people will get off the internet and not do a lot on the App Net.

Also all App Net apps will be censored as frick with real time censorship for all communications. And censoring le misinformation and Russian propaganda in the App Net streamers and Apps.

It will be like TV only worse with more spyware and censorship.

            NTA

            >>big tech won't survive either at this rate
            WRONG!

            >They can and will just turn the internet into cable television 2.0, shit it pretty much is already. What has anyone done? Answer; more or less fricking nothing.

And we can do nothing. The internet was doomed since the start a impossibility. The internet was made by the government for the government.

The internet of old is never cumming back and either will be soft obscured from normies
Remember USENET remember USENET = Real internet?
Remember that? When was the last time you did access USENET????

I've always been okay with login-walls. YT and Twitter simply improve if I can get a steady stream of things to follow [OF MY OWN CHOOSING], it's the ads that are the big no-no to me.

Why can't you just make a burner email and use that? That's when the trouble arises. On Twitter you can. On YT I'm not so sure you can. I wanted a second and third YT account just to organize my subscriptions by language and interest. But I couldn't manage to make a new account. Old YT was bad and I'm not sorry to have it gone. Being nostalgic for poorly done dated internet humor vs being able to watch nature documentaries and lectures for free. I know which one I pick. The only thing I miss is an algorithm that doesn't recommend you garbage AI, female and black oriented content with 10X the views of your previously recced video.

you can set up brand accounts, so you log into your main acc, but afterwards you'll have a selection of brand accs with their own subs, histories etc

      >On Twitter you can
I did that, but they are super picky, and every 2 weeks or so are making me to solve some long captcha , even though I never post anything or nor liked any post.

Don't be fooled, the idea is to eventually also start require a google email, than a phone number, than – eventually – some form of official identification card, to "fight bots or hate speech or whatever"

        Anonymous

the long captcha thing was recent and they've since strayed off of that. My account was blocked and after 4 tickets I've finally got it unblocked. I think they gave up on Twitter because the bot-follows I've been getting (despite not tweeting) have been increasing. I think it was a FF exclusive thing for a while, you can find a few posts about how nobody could solve the captcha. There was also an audio captcha which required you to put in either a 1 or 2 on which of the sound fragments contained bird noises. A lot easier and quicker than that long captcha. I'm sure there's attempts to get people to 'eventually' use a phone number (I doubt a google email), but even then you can just buy a burner phone for 1 cent a piece.

          >but even then you can just buy a burner phone for 1 cent a piece
Then they will require your Social Security Number or other official ID.

          >inb4 oh they would never do that
They absolutely will. Just give it more 10 or 15 years until this become normalized and socially acceptable. I mean, just look at show many absolutely terrible things they normalized, as the idea of you needing a login just to see something.

If they will do that regardless, as you imply, then you might as-well use a burner email. I find the discourse on future slippery slopes so boring. You don't know the future. You can't change the future. I don't even know if I'm alive in this future. Why do I care?

            Anonymous

This whole thread is about the future. Your solution of "oh, just use a burn email" might work today and the next year. But if you aren't seeing the write on the wall, and that the motivations for them to require an account (be it with an email or phone number) are essentially the same for them to require an official identification: make it harder for people to scrap stuff, build a better more accurate profile of who is browsing the site so that they can serve them ads/sell their data, and so on and so forth.

We already are in the slippery slope, it is slippery.

            Hello basement zoomeroid.

If you are not a zoomer or literally started using the internet in 2015 for IQfy you know everyone required an e-mail for an account. Since forever. In the 90s etc.
Tell me how on how many FORUMS did you post? Chans are not forums BTW.

How many websites? Especially in 2003 etc?

They always required an e-mail and if you where not a absolute moron you make a new one every day for free and internet all day.
Phones is where it got evil. Since in the 90s and 2000s (pre 2007) there was no way to verify that you are relay this guy and not making shit up especially if you are on a dynamic IP.

When cellphones became normalized everyone is expected to have their government tracking device on them and to verify with it.

The cell phones are the ones who are evil not the e-mail of the old internet.
Literally the only people who have a problem with e-mails are moronic IQfy zoomer neets who never used the internet outside of IQfy and other chan dysfunctional morons of old.

Turns out that the bullshit of mental outlaw about simply bypassing twitters login by this cool website (nitter) was bullshit and he is a total moron. You zoomer frick!

However yes after smart phones we are going into a dystopia where you will literally need a government ID account to have any access to the internet. They will justify this by saying this is to keep the AI bots out. The rest of the internet will be spammed to death by AI bots.

There is almost nothing of interest to watch on YT or other platforms so the internet is effectively dead and boring.

You are living the twilight of the free internet. Enjoy the embers before the eternal darkness.

They require a specific email (gmail, apple, hotmail, etc), otherwise your account will be automatically flagged as soon as you create it and they will bullshit you. Try to make a twitter or instagram account using a temporary email and tell me how it goes, you motherfricker moron.

Twenty years ago, you just created whatever Yahoo! Mail, Caramail or Hotmail you wanted for anything and you could have an unlimited number of those to register on every website you want.
Now, many services require an account from a major provider where getting a burner account can be challenging. For instance, the new Dream Machine AI ( https://lumalabs.ai/dream-machine ) requires you to sign in with Google.
I have several Google accounts for the free Drive storage but many "recent" accounts I made are getting locked out after a while.
This is why "emails" are an issue now. Not because of them per-se, but because burner emails that work everywhere are much harder to get/keep, imo.
It could be a skill issue though. There are countless bots in YouTube comments after all. You can buy cheap burner phone numbers for registration but I don't want to pay for that shit.

The zoomer is addicted to phones and refuses to say the truth. And the zoomer consumes """""History Lessons""""" from literally fact twisting trash like Mental Outlaw or Luke Smith who creates a warped and twisted history of what the internet was like in the 90s or 2000s.

            Absolutely no comment.

once more the problem is the PHONE PHONE PHONE.
The phone is in essence a government geo tracker that is also a verification token these days.

I mean, yeah, phones are a core part of the issue. But account lockouts can happen even with a phone number. Major providers now have algorithms where they check if the way you interact with the website as a whole looks "fraudulent" or not and they can just tell you to frick off if they're not happy with how you're doing.
And because these email accounts are less likely to be "fradulent" as a result, many external websites started to only accept email addresses from major providers.

Yes finally someone gets it, phones are the problem. It is the only convenient way to enforce mass surveillance, online ID, etc.
Ever think why there is not a single phone that's missing GPS, a front facing camera or Play services? Its because governments, banks and big corporations demand it.
Technically you could do the same shit on PC but the reason you can't is because there will be always PCs that lack a camera, etc but with phones its easy enough to blackmail every manufacturer even if they didn't already want to by themselves to follow the standardized surveillance device manufacturing guidelines. Thats the only way facebook or google can be sure you can complete their bullshit verification, as long as you own a phone which you do, you can do their shit because there are no phones allowed to be made that don't follow that formula.

Microsoft wants to do the same with PCs, be that Windows Hello compatible camera requirement on 11 laptops being announced at the same time as passwordless, biometric only Microsoft account login,TPM and Microsoft Pluton "Chip to Cloud Security Processor", hard push for ARM, etc.
Sure you can bypass it to install Windows, thats not the point, just like you can install an Android custom ROM, the point is to standardize the surveillance and control mechanisms so that govs/other corpos can safely know 99.9% of Windows devices will help them oppress people more efficiently just like phones already do, obviously their software will not run if you're using the bypasses.

Also I am a zoomer and it drives me fricking insane im the only one who gets this who isn't on their deathbed, total phone death must commence immediately.

For the last time: the issue is not the fricking phones.

Phones are just 1 way of identifying the users. And it's not even the best one at that, since in many countries you can buy disposable phone numbers without giving any official document tied to it. Hell, if anything, phones are just an intermediary step until they jump to requiring official IDs, which is even harder to get a fake one, becomes the norm, like it happens in Linkedin in some situations.

Yes they are, phones normalized constant surveillance, they broke down the barriers that stopped people from being complete morons and corpos from exploiting it.

So what the hell do you want? Cooooonsoooomeeee but feel special? Fricking go and pay for YouTube, like every other normie, because that's what you are. Otherwise, you would give zero fricks about YT.

      This and based.

Too many people want to eat the cake and have it too. Yes, a publicly traded company is going to be boiling the frog and doing whatever they can to make more money off you by doing unethical things, that's how it's been for decades and that's how capitalism works.

There are so many free alternatives for YouTube for privacy concerned people or for those who don't like ads nowadays, like e-books, torrenting, independent blogs, etc, yet you still want to watch the goy platform and force them to pander to you, even though they'll never care as they're too much of a monopoly.

If you really care so much then just go fricking pay them.

Also a Chinese competitor would be a great thing, since YouTube needs competition as they're getting too wienery.

Just copy paste their ui since navigating it is muscle memory and populate the website with fake channels, stolen videos and bots so people coming into the site for the first time don't feel weird.

You could probably get away with posting entire movies by parts and Anime by episodes like old YouTube as long as you host it overseas in Vietnam or some sea shithole where feds can't do shit.

gotta love that ideology. besides, the issue extends well past just signing in. under account enforcement google can start to get significantly more granular with control over their api usage, restricting download or local streaming clients, custom front-ends, extensions, etc. this is more a matter of speculative execution they would take as they attempt to make youtube a profit powerhouse. ads will be forced and even injected into every single video, downloads will be prevented unless through youtube premium, custom front-end clients must report all user metrics to function, and I'm sure it will continue from there left unchecked
